The Red Beetle Squad by Vidu

The Red Beetle Squad
Finding a tiny red beetle on a huge island too hard? Not if we work together! 🤝
Welcome to The Red Beetle Squad, an online asynchronous multiplayer game where each player must use the powers of different characters to find a tiny red beetle hidden somewhere on a big island. 🪲

🔍 Game Concept
You control a team of characters, all adorable and quirky, each with a unique ability to help you on your quest. The goal is simple (in theory): find the right red beetle and bring it back to the Beetle Altar. 🏝️
Each character has their specialty: the Detective 🕵️♂️ searches objects, the Naturalist 🪧 places signs so no one loses track, the Courier 🚴♀️ brings the beetle to the altar... and we even have a Ghost 👻 who, honestly, doesn’t do much. But hey, it’s cute, right?

🚀 Gameplay
- Asynchronous Multiplayer: You’re never alone! You cooperate online with other players to complete this seemingly simple, but full of twists, mission. 🌐
- 8 Unique Characters: Each has their own power. Use them strategically to find the beetle faster. 🦸♀️
- Quick Games: Each run lasts less than a minute, so no pressure! ⏱️

🎨 Visuals and Sound
Vidu went all out to bring you colorful, stylized cartoon graphics. 🎨 And what about the music? 🎶 Each character has their own interpretation of the main theme, giving each run its own unique atmosphere. 🎧

⚙️ Platforms
- PC and Mobile 🖥️📱
- Playable directly online via HTML5, no download required! 🌐
- Asynchronous multiplayer. 👾

🎉 The Team
This game was developed by Team Empreintes (Jaxime and Vidu), with the fantastic soundtrack created by Benjamin Widawski. 🎶 We hope you’ll have as much fun playing it as we had developing it! Thanks for playing! 🎮
🔄 Update on the Game
- We modified the music system: now, starting a new run with a new character won't restart the music. Instead, it will continue playing from the same timestamp as the previous track. We fixed some bugs to prevent crashes when loading the map on iOS.
- We fix some bugs that may allow player on Ios to stop crashing when map is loading.

I agree from what we can see already it looks great. And the gameplay concept sounds fun already.
Definetly coming back in 4 hours to check it out.
Can't wait to read your comments ! ♥

THe game is fun, I'll probably have my little girls play it.
A go to my previous location button would have been nice because the beetle was quite far away and pinpointing it took some time!
I didn't understand how to play at first (thought the timer for the scout character was a count down, so the game kept ending before I even did anything xD) anyway nice job!
The concept is as simple as it is good. It has a nicely low barrier to entry. Music is very fitting. The overall visual style is great.
The bigger assets, like trees and buildings, look a bit blurry in comparison to smaller assets like stones and the grass. I assume that they are scaled up(?). And the grass tiles are cut off in some places.
But besides that **it is a very cool game and I enjoyed playing**.
I can imagine this game going very well if you decide to develop it further.
After some rounds on a high populated map. I couldn't resist to try one alone. And what can I say... :D

* tbh I guess I got a bit lucky with the location of the bug and found it right next to the player spawn
@yorsh -> Thank you very much ! Your words warm my heart so much ✨
The onboarding is a bit rough with a lot of text but once you get into it it's really fun.
Big congrats on this one!
The roles feel quite complementary, and I could see it develop into something more real-time, similar to social investigation games. There's an impressive amount of art assets, and the music is especially catchy. I didn't even realize the theme had variations according to the character!
I want to point out the level of polish, too, as you bothered to include localization and most importantly a tutorial, which most jam games won't have time for. I wish the tutorial would tell you to use mouse clicks to move, as I was trying to use arrow keys or ZQSD (go France!) - and it would be even better if you supported both input schemes, as it's a bit cumbersome to move using the mouse when the camera is close. Something odd did happen to me: I didn't get any character-specific tutorials in my first playthrough. I only noticed it when I restarted the game and suddenly saw them. I would have been less confused initially if they had appeared.
Overall, congratulations on an impressive entry!
Great job on the game (I am surprised af that you did multiplayer game🤩). So far one of the best games I played on this Jam!
Beautiful art and sound, good job!

I did encounter a few issues though:
- First try I didn't see any maps to play, had to refresh the page and try again.
- Second try played the map, found correct beetle and took it to the altar but failed. Took same beetle to altar again and it worked?

P.S. Campfire is now on my steam wishlist
