Spore Scout is a fun mushroom foraging experience. You are in the great mushroom forest where the King of Mushrooms has a task for you! Beside him are two empty display cases and he needs your scout's help to fill them up. You need to collect all of the different types of mushrooms and sell them to the King.
To harvest mushrooms you hit E to begin, and then use WASD for the quicktime event. Different mushrooms have different rarity, and the rarer the mushroom the harder the quicktime event will be. Selling mushrooms will earn you gold and then in your Upgrade screen you can purchase upgrades to slow down the quicktime event, and shorten the number of keys you have to hit. You can also purchase upgrades for your basket to carry more mushrooms by picking up grass.
This game features 10 real life mushrooms:

I did! Took me 9 hours on saturday morning because I was out of practice. I didn't record this jam, but I've recorded past jams and made a playlist if you're curious about the workflow to get a character out in a day https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA1sIW1hqu2-MJT-jaVZA9aDBYHx1n8D1
Glad you liked it.
rockstar entry, the singing scared the FUCK out of me initially, but its pretty funny. And really trippy. My group also almost made a game about mushrooms.
Is the run animation intentionally bad lol?
Lol, I wish but no, I actually tried hard at it and then when I saw it in the first build of the game I cringed so hard. But I left it instead of redoing it because it is funny.
Man I keep seeing you on the front page and thought I had to check you out, given that you also worked on a mushroom related game. I expected a few good looking mushrooms, but little was I prepared for the epic soundtrack and voice acting in this game. 10/10, would sell mushrooms to a giant mushroom again.
Fly Agaric x 50
Jewelled Amanita x 50

Chicken of the Woods x 40
Oragne Mycena x 30

Rounded Earthstar x 5
Golden Oyster x 5
The voice lines were unexpected but a nice touch! After a while some of them got a bit annoying though, especially the ones telling me to find more interesting mushrooms (maybe add a random chance to play them instead of always playing them). The music was funny (again, didn't expect singing ).
The player model is cute, even if the running animation doesn't look quite right, I think it's great work especially for a game jam!
The quick time events felt a bit unnecessary to me and don't quite fit in a game that's about foraging mushrooms (it's essentially a cozy game, just enjoy nature and collect things - no need for quick action in my opinion).
At the same time, I kinda wish the walking and running speeds would have been a bit faster. ^^
Cool game, though!
I love the king dancing
I found out if you mash buttons, you get all QTE 🤫 (helpful to me as I have an AZERTY keyboard)
I collected them all eventually. The Rounded Earthstar took way too long to find.
Not a fan of quicktime events, but there is no penalty for pressing the wrong button to spamming all the buttons works.
The audio is 5 stars for sure! So funny!
The song is a 10/10. Is it on Spotify?
The game has a lot of personality.
The qte sequences are a way to add some interest to the game, however it would be nice if they started a bit faster so I don't have to wait as long after failing one.
I think maybe you could ease up on the smooth modifiers on your meshes and maybe cut down on the poly density of the mushrooms for such a small object on screen.
I'd try and use other shaders to avoid the overly plastic look, or make sure to adjust the specular values as i think with a few small changes like that you could get quiet a nice looking visual style.
Overall a fun entry into the jam.
I did notice that there's no penalty to pressing a wrong key in the mushroom picking sequence, which makes it quite easy to do by just spamming keys lol
