The Human Drive For Innovation In The Realm Of Science by iamevn

[raw]
made by iamevn for LD36 (COMPO)
One day a human at the top of a hill gave a rock a shove...

Ran out of time, oh well. I'm pretty happy for my first LD and second game jam in general.

v0.41 sound should actually work now, uploaded the wrong files >.<

v0.4 adds some sounds and makes some upgrade adjustments
Trying to make a good sounding rolling noise and wooshing noise for when rock is on the ground and in the air.

v0.3 adds title screen and intro sequence (press space)

v0.21 now adds a basic upgrade system.
There's a lot of tweaking I need to do to paremeters like cost and what the upgrades do and I need to do a lot of polish (sound effects, intro sequence, better (mouse) buttons) and some more stuff I still need to add but it's really coming together.

v0.1 is a barebones release that just barely technically counts as a game

There's a bug where if you use the menubar in OSX or right click on the titlebar in windows, physics gets a bit weird. I have a really bad hacky way to fix it but I'd like to come up with a better solution.

Yeah, the base level of upgrades is meant to be kinda bad.
If you reset it saves your total distance. Save up and buy some upgrades (use 1/2/3/4 keys to buy them)

Cute idea. The splash screen was confusing because it didn't tell me how to start, I thought it was just still loading. Also, it would be better if there was some more friction on the wheel, so rolls didn't take so dang long each time. The graphics made me chuckle, some animation would have really brought it to life.

I'm a sucker for any kind of "incremental" game and I think you really nailed it :D . Yes the splash screen is confusing and it takes WAAAAY to long for the title to show up and then WAAAYY to long to show <spacebar>. Art is.. well coderart but it does the trick. I really like the idea and concept

About to upload v0.4 which adds some sounds that hopefully fill out those dramatic pauses and adds a hint at the start.
I want to do some randomly placed interactive stuff that can stop a roll early or help to extend it but I'm not sure if I'll have enough time.

Short fun, little game, the art is a bit crude, but that's nothing to worry about, it makes the game have a satirical feel, but, c'mon, you couldn't make the price appear beside the upgrade?

Fun game. I cracked up during the intro. The entire game's aesthetic feels like its poking fun at the idea of ancient technologies. The art was a little barebones but it fits the game really well.

When I watched the rock roll down the hill, I cared how far the rock would go. I was immersed into the stone age world. When I read the 4 upgrades and pressed 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys on my keyboard and nothing happened, I felt confused.

The game behaves pretty weirdly when I just spam 'R' :D

Also I loved the intro!

The rock can be made levitate if you press R while rolling :)

Amazing.
Spent a long time just getting the upgrades.
Gets more and more ridiculous.
Reminds me of launch the hedgehog.
Nice title, too!

If you reset in the air and press space again, rock goes infinitely. 345 distance and still going. I liked the intro btw:!
