Astroscanner by DiElecktrik

[raw]
made by DiElecktrik for Ludum Dare 59 (COMPO)

Scan the starry sky and receive signals from all over space. There's a lot of interesting stuff out there. But really, you just want to buy a ticket and get out of here as soon as possible

Every time I'm amazed at how much work has been done in just a couple of days. Good job

Hello from XK discord!

A great game with a polished gameplay loop. I really liked the large number of references, especially the Outer Wilds ones.

Wow, I felt like a am on the space station, trapped, alone and miserable. Tried so hard to get my ticket home.

Oh no, a voice from the void!
I've reached the end. Nice and simple gameplay![photo_5418348247933196830_w.jpg](///raw/339/76/z/7100b.jpg)

Extremely decent compo entry, well done! My only real critique would be that as soon as i saw that i have a ticking timer - i stopped reading any scanner messages, felt like these two features fight each other for my (player) attention.

It was fun to find new signals, and even more fun to find the Easter eggs. A really engaging game

Solid jam entry with a great atmosphere and stylish UI. Loved easter eggs and the core loop, though the timer makes it hard to actually stop and read the messages. Really polished and engaging for such a short build!

Lots of cool references in a decent game - somehow it's an interactive idler, and it's not a contradiction in any way. Theme is great, music (multiple tracks!) really suits, and it's a nice atmosphere.

Dude so many fun and cool easter eggs, the art work is always great when it's there, this is such a great concept getting all of these messages and not necessarily knowing if they're all true (in which case don't power off the simulation) or if there are things trying to deceive out there. It's so fun and cool and just makes me think the entire time what is out there in this universe full of death, star wars, and cake. Amazing work 5/5 in all categories :D

Really atmospheric and surprisingly absorbing. The mix of scanning, collecting signals, and slowly piecing together the world works super well. Loved the little discoveries, though I also found myself wishing I had just a bit more time to read everything. Great vibe and very polished for a jam!

This is really cool idea, I love the atmosphere, the progress is quite simple but a solid base to develop upon!

A cool game. I initially thought it was going to be a horror. The graphics and audio are good, especially for a compo.

Really enjoyed funny references, this game would benefit if it was set in some kind of existing universe, like Star Trek

A very fun, relaxing, and addictive game! The one thing I really missed was getting more recognized images as the Accuracy upgrade increased.

Funny references and the game is great, but to be honest, I didn't finish playing.
I wanted to get there a little faster, because over time, all the signals start repeating themselves.

The game's atmosphere really immersed me in the feeling of being alone in space! It was cool!
The time progression felt a bit punishing, which slowed down the pace.

It's cool that I got to create a few melodies and draw so many pictures, but it's a shame I couldn't look at them separately afterward.

Alright… this game really impressed me. Even though it definitely has its flaws. I’ll just write this as a stream of thoughts.

First of all, I really like how the jam theme is tied into the core gameplay. It’s great that every signal comes with its own story, commentary, and image.

The “wow” moment for me was the player. I took a closer look at the interface and realized you could apparently switch audio tracks. At the end of another in-game workday, I gave it a try—and sure enough, you actually can. And the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic.

However, the long-term goal of the game isn’t very clear. For a long time, I didn’t understand what I was actually supposed to do to reach the ending (aside from just maxing out upgrades).
Correction: later I noticed in the menu that we’re supposed to buy a ticket… but it probably should’ve been highlighted with a separate button or color, because at first it reads like just another top-tier upgrade.

The color indicators of the signals also don’t really communicate their value or variety. Maybe there is a system behind it, but there’s just not enough time to figure it out… although I doubt it, since the scanning speed and rewards—for example, for two red signals—are different.

And that brings me to time. Unfortunately, all the jokes, Easter eggs, and interesting content are hidden in text blocks and images—which you don’t really have time to look at, because you need to rush through as many signals as possible in a short time.
Yes, you can upgrade the workday duration, but the core loop doesn’t change—you’re still pushed toward quickly processing as many signals as possible. And the description texts also appear too slowly…

I really missed some kind of system to track which signals you’ve already explored. When you’re trying to move as fast as possible, at some point you just lose track of which sectors you’ve already checked and which you haven’t. Hovering over everything with the mouse just to check “maybe I missed this one” isn’t very fun.
(And no, the slow blinking of the scanner doesn’t help—it actually confuses things, because for a split second it feels like a new scan is starting.)

Lots of praise for the “Wow” signal, and for the Dune reference. I didn’t see a reference tied to the “42” answer at first and was about to be disappointed—but then, thankfully, I found it :)

But it was really disappointing that the signals start repeating over and over again. I put in the effort to finally slow down and read them—and then realized they’re the same ones… At that point, the game turns into a grindy routine, because I’ve essentially already seen all the content, yet I still need to grind those 100k.

I saw your game from the one of the posts and am happy I got to it, after a long list of other games. : ))

It has some resemblance to my own game (set in a starry blocky cosmose) so couldn't not try it, cheers! ^^

I got totally immersed into the experience! Ones you get the hang of it, it's really chill. I like the scanning sounds and the sound tracks. Thank you for that, I think it's a beautiful game. Even though a bit short.

Some interesting mechanics here, with the text being the "received message". Maybe, as others mentioned, my only feedback would be that the "level" ends abruptly after the scanning time is finished, it doesn't let you read and ponder over those scanned messages for a bit more.

Bravo.

Awesomely fun little game! Loved the graphics and sound (and the mini jukebox -- didn't notice that until day 3), and the comedic messages and images from the signals.

Excellent work -- very well done!

A simple and ordinary game. I don't even have anything more to add. I played for a while. But well done for doing this alone!

Everything in this hangs together really well, I like the sort of synced up revealing of the image and text when picking up on signals, feels like with a bit more time this would be a really cool way of framing a story but I can see that that would be hard to do on a jam time scale!
