Fake Social by Culf

[raw]
made by Culf for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

You are the PR manager of a president that keeps shit posting online. Your job is to make sure the president is sending the right signals to the public.

How To Play:

Before the president make his new post public you get the chance to edit it. Press the notification, select the least bad option, before the timer runs out, then post it.

The goal is to keep your public perception up before the midterms.

Installation guide

Sadly we were unable to get the web-version working in time. - Windows: download "FakeSocialwindows.zip", unzip it, and run "FakeSocial.exe". - Linux: download "FakeSociallinux.zip", unzip it, make "FakeSocial" executeable if it isn't already, and execute it. Please note that the linux version is created and tested on a debian based distro. - Alternativly, if you have python 3 installed, get the source from GitHub (link is down below). Dependencies are pygame-ce and pygame_gui and can be installed with pip.

A lot of work has clearly gone into this. Thanks, guys — this is shitposting, not doomscrolling! Great job 👍

Such a polished and coherent experience. Couldn't help the president even midway to the midterms but there is so much to be salvaged there. Excellent satire.

This game is the definition of "It's funny because it's true". I do think the game goes on for too long though, it could have been better paced with half the amount of posts or with a better variety as there are only two types of puzzles.

The tension of having to quickly signal the perfect, least-damaging message while a post is about to go live was brilliant. You really nailed the stressful absurdity of modern public relations. Great concept and mood!

This was a cool idea! Very frantic trying to respond in time but managing that was fun too. Lots of work clearly went into this. Great job all round!

Love the UI, the only improvement I would suggest is making more things interactable

It was good. The visuals were very well done. And overall, it turned out to be a pretty good satire, great work!

How is the public impact of a post determined? It seems that only picking the most "respectable" option is not a guarantee of success. Or is the idea that, despite your best efforts, you really have no control over the situation? That's pretty funny.

It would be fun to see people's reactions to your posts too.

Hi @orangeoceans, thanks for the feedback (:

Public impact of a post is simply determined by an impact rating assigned to each response. It is not guaranteed that there is a "perfect" option, sometimes the best option will just minimize your loss in public perception score. Here is the file with all posts and ratings, if you are interested in looking into it: https://github.com/Culf-B/LudumDare59/blob/main/posts/presidentPosts.json

Reactions for posts were planned, but we sadly didn't have time to implement it.

An interesting take on the theme! I did lose a couple chunks of public perception because my silly brain couldnt recall what some of the details on some images meant but otherwise it was a decent time... and interesting how the right words can convey the same message but more digestable for the community.

Lots of funny posts to make and see! I only managed to get halfway to midterms, but it was fun to see what would come next!

This is really funny hahaha, felt pretty disheartening watching the perception almost always drop no matter what I chose, but that probably accurately captures how it actually feels to have this job

I get that there is a good amount of effort, but I find it hard, I was not able to beat this game, but still okay!
