Crude Food by Areg_Kr

[raw]
made by Areg_Kr for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

all that's left for you are long evenings listening to the monotonous signal of the microwave, waiting for another batch of reheated slop...

crude food is an atmospheric spooky mini game about crafting weird dishes from various products, edible or not, whatever the pipe gives you. follow the clues on tablet and collect every meal from your bucket list (27 unique delicious dishes).

screenshot20260421035147.png

we've interviewed the developers, and that's what they had to say:

spl3g (3D modeling) suggests playing with a notebook, as not everyone has the nerve to do so without one.
asmao314 (sound design) recommends you trying the rat (do not the rat).
MichaelNoskov (ideas and balancing) warns about turning the microwave on at max power.
AregKr (lead programer), unfortunately, does not show any signs of life after developing the entire game on his self-written game engine (check it out!).

P.S. due to our game being kinda unintuitive, we decided to publish some of the required recipes to complete the game: instructions.jpg

P.P.S. due to some real incidents during testing we decided to clarify: to eat an item, hold it in your hand first

@indiepanda If you were searching for a web build, we only have a desktop version that you can download from here. We have also repaired the itch.io page in case you want to download it from there

@krakadushka sorry, our game is written on a custom game engine, which may not support some old video cards. You can try to run from another device if you really want to play it :)

Wine version works - I'm missing libc++.so.1 on Mint 22.1

@j3m I had the same problem when testing our game on Mint. I don't recommend updating this package yourself, as you could accidentally break your system, haha. Unfortunately, the only way to run our game for you is to use a device with a different OS (Windows is preferred) or try running it in a virtual machine. Thank you for your time.

P.S.
Our lead developer, the creator of the engine, will try to find a solution, and we'll get back to you with an answer

@j3m Unfortunately, it is a dependency on VMA (Vulkan memory allocator). In the future release, I will try to link this library statically. Anyway, thank you for your comment!

Super funny game! I really struggled with memorizing crap because I'm not good at that in general but it was fun to experiment to find new stuff. The hunger bar depleting seemed so fast sometimes though, I was really struggling to do anything most of the time lol. Great atmosphere and audio. Nice work!

Dude, I dig the style—but expecting players to read recipes outside of the game isn't really a great idea.
