Air Traffic Chaos!! by Elbapotsnugg

[raw]
made by Elbapotsnugg for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

Welcome to Air Traffic Chaos!!

The Game: It’s day 70 of the government shutdown! Let’s just say budget cuts have been made and you’re the last ATC operator left at LDX airport.

The Objective: Collect a paycheck (uh… well whenever the government opens back up). Clear as many planes (safely) for landing and departure! Oh yeah, the software is free so there may be some uh… “events” to deal with. Don’t get fired.

Controls:

Movement: WASD to move

Interact with Objects: Press E

Assign planes to runways: Click on the plane then assign it to a runway with number keys 1-3 (top to bottom)

Hint: Your boss left you a memo on the desk with some instructions

That was a fun idea. I liked having to navigate through the shelves to get to the router :D It took a while to understand how to assign planes to runways without any indicators in the game but I eventually got it. Great job!

I love this 2d/3d mix for a work simulation game and the mood feels just right for a sad social commentary. However, I honestly wasn't too sure what was going on with the flight control minigame. After 2 of my runways were locked out from crashes, the planes seemed to just fly themselves fine through the last runway without any input from me. Some tutorialization would go a long way.

Funny! I think I beat the game... the clock stopped at 13:40 and I ran out of planes to land.

@gamesplusjames Valid point. We put in a memo on the desk to give an overview of the instructions, but alas ran out of time before we could point the player to read them. Such is that game jam life i suppose =\ Appreciate the feedback!

Really impressive amount of content for a jam game, feels like there is a lot to explore and expand on. The core idea is strong and works well for an incremental game. Music is great too. Balance feels a bit slow at the start and progression could be smoother, but overall very enjoyable and solid experience!

Honestly i was so lost at the beginning, but it got so freaking funny xDDDD if the main music loop wasnt driving me insane i'd give it a 10/10 hahahaha well done!!

Had to check this out given I'd also done an Air Traffic Control based game  There's a great sense of humour to this and I had fun with it! I did think that the events are maybe balanced a bit too far towards making things difficult, particularly losing signal - I had a couple of times where I'd go to fix the signal, and by the time I'd got back to the computer the signal went again which felt pretty punishing!

Generally good fun though, kept me hooked for a few goes round despite the difficulty, and enjoyed the train popups! If difficulty's my main complaint it could just be a skill issue on my part

I hate that I instantly understood the 'R U HUMAN' reference! I really liked the core loop and the idea, though sometimes the 'glitches' felt a little too random. Overall, it’s a great concept and the gameplay is super satisfying!
