NORTH-5 by rezonanc

[raw]
made by rezonanc for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

NORTH-5 is a short typing game in which you take on the role of an operator of a combat targeting system. Your mission is to eliminate enemy forces. Do not think about what those blips are. That is an order.

How to play?

Enter text commands in the terminal, specifying the direction and the number of cells to move. Scan the signals transmitted by Ksarian soldiers, then eliminate them. You can enter up to three commands in a single line.

list of additional commands: 1. email - open email (also set game on pause, it is safe to read letters)

  1. close - close message

  2. back - back to previous screen (closing message also)

  3. settings (also set game on pause like email, it is safe to read letters)

Good mix of mechanics. And actually fun. Could use more commands, probably, such as a some bigger attack (with a long name).

@loig looks like your browser blocking localization .json files. can you tell me which browser do you use? also try to play the game on github: click link here

Nice job tying together gameplay and text into a story. Not a big fan of the faint CRT lines yet the SFX were quite satisfying.

Game looks very good and it keeps me in fore almost 10 minnutes of intestive play until my fingers can't keep press the commands :) I can't say there is anny bug, at least i didn't find/notice. From my side this is what I'm expecting from signal game. Your game is great. Maby just make sam wave attack or make some changes in speed of attack/bigger enemmeis which must be shooted at least twice etc. Thanks for your game, Well done :)

Прикольная игра. Отлично выглядит и играется. Напомнила одну из мини-игр из КР-2.

Ohhh finally a game where my terminal skills come in handy! Love the idea, really satisfying to scan, move around the grid and hearing that crisp explosion sound after every `fire` command. One QoL addition I would request: make the numbers in the movement commands optional. If the number is ommitted, just move 1 cell in specified direction. Also would be nice if the game explicitly said that it's paused when you are viewing emails, because at first I rushed to read through them. Or you could split the game into runs and show emails between them. Really cool concept overall and I can see how it could be greatly expanded with new commands and enemies!

Typing into the terminal is extremely satisfying once the commands get recorded in muscle memory, so there's a lot of potential for expansion here. Visually it already looks like a full game. Aliases for navigation commands (e.g. Back=Exit/Quit) would be good QoL. I ran the game on Brave with no issues.

Visuals looks very cool. Liked you art from the beginning. Game design looks interesting too, really enjoyed your game

I liked this a ton. Just the right length for the complexity of the game. The typing felt superb, the sound feedback from the key presses made you feel like you were using some old machine. Thanks for making this!

I don't know if it should end at some point but I think I did pretty good job on middle horizontal line and stopping the enemies. My wrists hurt now but at least I got to try some typing game finally. Stylized and really fun!

Great sound effects and all the mechanics seemed to work as advertised.

Good length, told a concise story.

I'm a sucker for terminals and computer UIs and this one nailed the terminal feel very well.

Nice job!

Glad I got here after the issues were all solved because this is awesome.

Graphically this is excellent. Minimalistic but really well executed.

The audio is great, I absolutely love the keyboard noises.

I am a really fast typer and have played a ton of TELNET MUDs in my time, so playing this was really tactile for me. Jumping around the arena once you get a feel for how far away you are from stuff is really satisfying.

Really good work on the little narrative touches as well. Broke up the gameplay nicely and was all well written.

Great work.

the game mechanics are very interesting! The main screen is very well designed. It took me a while to figure out the controls, but it's a minor issue. The game is very atmospheric and well-made!

This game is slow. It is a sparse display. And it's pure art. What a good entry. The visuals were all great. You emulated the old terminal screens so well and the narrative was excellent paired with the limited inputs.

Really neat looking game. "Simple" yet fitting art! Took me a moment to realized it is not turned based and I need to typed stuff faster. Also nice to see a game jam with a story in it. Well done.
