THE MYSTERIOUS DEVICE by Itero Proto

[raw]
made by Itero Proto for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

On one of the countless planets in the universe lived a creature who called itself Grumi.

Grumi always carried a strange device with it. No one knows whether it was always so hostile, or if this sinister tool changed it over time. No one knows where the device came from. But one thing is certain — when activated, it affects everything around it. The signal it emits carries only one thing: anger. In truth, Grumi is harmless when left alone. It always believed it was the only living being on the planet. But one day, its quiet solitude was disturbed by other creatures that began to appear on its territory. Frightened and confused, Grumi uses the device to drive them away. But the device does not work the way Grumi thinks. The signal does not simply scare others — it changes them. Creatures exposed to the beam become increasingly aggressive. And if they remain under its influence for too long… the effect becomes irreversible. Now Grumi must face the consequences of the signal.

         CONTROL: only mouse

I've converted them all to stone (?), then they followed me and I lured them into the portal (?). I'm a bit confused xD. But it was fun figuring it out, although I'm sure I missed something :D

I liked the start menu a lot. I have not understood the X (for quitting I suppose) so I smash it multiple times, but except that, it's lovely.
I think it takes a long time to transform enemy to stone and after exploding them, and the drop is very rare (maybe my luck). The enemy doesn't kill us when they dash in us? Except for that, and the graphics resolution being very different between sprites, i liked the game. Good job

Really neat game! Got 4 endings (sad, mushrooms stolen, crazy, and good). Love how there are multiple win/lose conditions!

@loki-drams NPCs turn into people like you randomly for 3 to 5 seconds in my opinion) They don't hurt you, but they get in the way (especially when there are a lot of them)
Thanks for playing) 😊

Cool Artstyle and menu design.
Would be cool to have different enemy designs or the player to have different weapons.

A fun game with good graphics. The sounds could use some work — the laser sound is a bit annoying.

#### RU

#### EN
At first I didn't understand anything. Then I didn't understand anything again. But then I realized that I didn't understand anything. That's all I understood.

The author has some work to do, but even so, the game is already fun, even if it's a bit confusing :)
The visuals, sounds, and design are all good in the game, but the game needs to work on its clarity :)

@stormdrill really? and I only spent about an hour working on them) I wish I could have added character animations. They would have been even more attractive (or cute and ugly)

@itero-proto Looks like you’re pushing the limits in 2D, while I’m focusing on the 3D side of things. To be honest, I’ve started many projects before, but this is the first time I’m actually pushing through to release! Thanks for checking out my portfolio 😉 Honestly, I could never pull off 2D sprites like you do

I love the art style! And the gameplay is fun.
The font in the tutorial is a bit hard to read but I like its presentation and the game is not too difficult to understand so that's not a big issue.

Very interesting entry. The art and music is great. I especially like the characters and menu UI. I felt bad for the crying one when I converted it. I like the multiple endings. Makes it more repayable. I got the crazy ending first time but then went back and tried to avoid using the beam on them once they had been converted. The only issue I ran into was if there are a lot of converted creatures they can get you stuck in a corner. Great entry otherwise. Well done!

Interesing idea, cool art, but it gets a bit to repetitive on default ending with killing all enemies one by one. I would rebalance the hp. But overall it was fun, beat the game, cool entry

The game is quite fun. Nice soundtrack and effects add a lot to the funk. The palette choice yields a very interesting visual style. It feels like some animations would make a massive difference, but for a solo project it would really be hard to do push for more quality. Great job!

I felt this game was very whimsical and had a big 2000s flash inspired flavor! the controls also reminded me of that time in gaming and I just a good, albeit short and sweet, time with it. Well done and thanks for the cool game! I got the good ending btw

Cool idea of using a signal beam to make npcs more hostile, kind of like where animals become aggressive when a speaker plays a sound that humans cant here but they can. really like it. I feel that the signal beam could have had a cooldown, as it makes it fairly easy to cheese the npc's a bit, but other than that cool game. Also, really like the art style, cant wait to see where this game goes post jam.

The concept is interesting overall—there’s already some lore and charismatic characters, but the controls felt quite unusual.
Movement is generally much more intuitive with the keyboard, and user experience is important.

I'm quite confused! ^^() I don't really understand what's going on, and somehow I got the "stole all of my mushrooms" ending even though there were still clearly mushrooms on the screen. But it handled fluidly and it was an interesting experience. Graphics were pretty nice too!

My browser's audio was broken so I had to come back and try again, and the sound design is solid. Well done there!

I like the idea of turning "npc" into enemies that chase you, but controls are weird. I would prefer for movement to be classic WSAD or Arrows. Most of the tries like 3-4 of them just lock me and I had to start over which did not felt great. The art is really well done and music is fun too!

This is a really cool little game, and the gremlins are such a fun concept! I did run into a small issue where one gremlin got stuck on the right edge of the screen and I couldn't seem to kill him. Despite that minor hitch, the overall experience was great and the polish is impressive. Truly high-quality work for a jam entry!
