Traffic Simulator by JamesGames1000

[raw]
made by JamesGames1000 for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

You are a police officer who, following multiple charges of Jaywalking, has been demoted to traffic duty. Signal cars through lanes to prevent buildup. Taking too long will annoy drivers, and they might ignore you.

Feel free to leave any feedback below or ask any questions about the game

HOW TO PLAY

Signal for cars to go through by clicking on their lane.

If a car is waiting for too long, they will drive through whenever they want to.

If cars collide, or if you get hit, then you lose the level.

If traffic builds up too much, then something special might happen.

This is the first actual game that I’ve made in UE5. I hope you enjoy it. Special thanks to Leakyfaucet55 for playtesting and feedback.

Either link below works to download the game. The difference is just using itch.io or google drive

@Chaseplays if you go to the google drive link you can download it from there. Unfortunately I can't put the file straight into this page because it is too large.

@jamesgames1000 Oh okay, thank you! Probably would be best to change the link to say Windows instead of Source Code then, had me a little confused at first.

@kenoshka Thank you for playing! I will try and make the first two levels harder but glad to hear the third one gave you some trouble.

@julia-nistel Glad you thought it was hilarious. Thank you for playing :)

@ofoof Sorry that the game isn't very clear, I will make it more clear how the levels work. Thanks for playing!

The theme is cleverly used, the core design is very thoughtful, and the art is unique. Five stars! Welcome to try our works when you have time, thanks for sharing!

Hilarious game! Avoided getting hit completely by accident on the first two levels and was pretty surprised when I ragdolled away when getting hit in the third hehe. Pretty clever use of the topic!

Fun concept, I like the idea of being a traffic officer dealing with impatient drivers — it creates some chaotic and funny moments.

The mechanic where cars start ignoring you if you wait too long is a nice touch, adds pressure and keeps things moving.

At times it’s a bit unclear how levels work or what to expect next, so a bit more guidance or a short tutorial would help a lot.

Also feels like early levels can be abused a bit, while later ones spike in difficulty — smoothing that curve would make it feel better.

Overall a solid first UE5 project, nice job 👍

@krawa Thank you for taking your time to write an in depth review, we will take the things you said and try to fix that in our updated version when we decide to make post LD updates, that said I'm glad you enjoyed the game! :)

A cool take on the theme. The third level really makes you pop compared to the first two, but the difficulty has increased mainly due to the number of roads and cars. I was more in a hurry to simply click on the roads one by one than to think about which ones to skip now and which ones later. If we focused on the variety of cars, their speed and behavior, and so on, the game could become much more interesting and addictive!

I thought the idea was cute and definitely on theme. The controls felt intuitive, and I liked the visual indicators for impatient drivers and the blinkers showing when they were going to turn.

I did feel like the speed in the second and third levels pushes things away from puzzle solving a bit. It ended up feeling more effective to find a safe spot and wait it out rather than really engage with the movement. I’m not sure if the game is meant to allow for those safe spots, since it kind of defeats the purpose of having to move the character.

Nit: the text UI wasn’t rendering properly on my laptop, so some things were hard to read.

@beastpanda Sorry to hear the UI wasn't working properly not sure why that is but we will look into it. As for the safe spots we didn't want any but as we didn't have enough time we didn't work on it, that said thank you for playing I hope you had fun!

Now that's what I call working on a theme, we'll make a traffic light out of a player, a good concept

The way the traffic signals fit the theme is very natural and cool. The concept is great. I'm really looking forward to exploring more content in the subsequent games.
