shift-0 by nikitose
A listening station at the edge of the dark forest. Signals drift through your field. Some are civilizations. Some are not. Your job is to decide -- and fire before they find you.
How to play
Skip this if you'd rather figure it out yourself -- the in-game briefing covers everything.
You'll see a series of signals. Each is either a civilization or nature.
- Civilizations carve. They lock into a clean geometric form and hold it still for 3+ seconds.
- Nature churns. It never holds -- it wobbles, flashes, smears.
Drift markers (red dots on the edges) pulse when the signal is drifting. Bring your cursor onto a marker's line — column for the top edge, row for the left -- to steady it. Off the line, the signal slips.
Civilizations quiet their drift before the hold. Nature stays agitated throughout — another tell.
Firing
- Click to fire on a civilization you've identified.
- Your weapons need ~3 seconds of steady observation to lock coordinates. Fire too early and the fix slips.
- Fire on nature, or miss the civ's hold, and your exposure climbs.
Fail states
- Two wrong reads ends the shift.
- Too much exposure -- and they find you.
Good hunting, operator.

It's a bit tough to get the gist of what kind of signal you are dialing in to.

Visuals are cool. I was a bit confused on my interaction though. Perhaps worth clarifying the idea in description?

It's a smart move to experiment with sounds for the theme signal. It works well and it's innovative, congrats!

Pretty immersive which I love in games. I honestly have no clue what the win condition is, or even if it has one, but I was fascinated by the way the colors played out on the screen. The audio effects suit the game nicely and I liked that the game style was something I'd never seen before. But... Since it is unlike anything I've ever seen before I could use a LOT more instruction, maybe even a brief tutorial to give the player a better understanding of what they're supposed to do. I may not have understood what was going on but I did enjoy the experience. This is a game I'd come back and play again if I understood it better, so I hope you keep working on this one!

Nice idea, but lack of UI makes it hard even to understand if you fired or not.

Very interesting idea, it's really trippy, but does make sense in a way. I think it could do with some more confirmations when you are doing stuff correctly, and when you are failing. Because I'm not entirely sure what am I even doing wrong.

It's like being trapped inside a lava lamp! I'm not sure how or if I actually caused it to happen, but I did manage to make a cool rainbow pattern resolve eventually. Cool idea for sure!
