Gas & Fly by Gurtek

[raw]
made by Gurtek for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

You manage the control tower of an aircraft fuel station. Your goal is to refuel as many planes as possible. Each plane's color indicates which fuel pump it must use.

-

Scoring

+100 pts — Successful refuel

−250 pts — Wrong fuel type

−150 pts — Holding pattern full (max 4 aircraft allowed)

-

Controls

Left click — Select an aircraft

Right click — Set destination for selected aircraft (must be on ground)

Scroll click or Space — Land selected aircraft (must be airborne)

Scroll click or Space — Take off (aircraft must be fully refueled and on the runway exit arrows)

-

Good luck !

Tutogamejam.PNG To take off, the plane must be in these positions, have fuel, and be oriented in the same direction as the arrows on the ground. The plane automatically orients itself in the correct direction once it is in the correct position.

Great design but when i first open the game i don`t see the plane. Also, maybe it`s worth to add fullscreen button?

I really like the concept, but I can't tell what's happening in the game. How do I tell if a ship has refueled? I also just can't get them to take off, is there a specific place to put them to trigger takeoff?

Thanks for your feedback ! @bobanko & @skytech6 .
I added more instruction and the fullscren button on the itchio page ;-)

The game is not finished, but I hope to have time to make a post-jam version with sound, collisions, a better user interface, instructions, etc.

I can see the idea but the control is confusing cause you have to use space bar and right click to set an airplane for different purpose each. IMO it would be better to just use left click for everything.
Also plane's color should be shown when they appear not only when they land.
If those issues were fixed, this could be good game.

Bro tip:

If you want proper LDJam integration, you can hack a fullscreen button into the whatever HTML template your engine is generating. Here's a relevant gist: https://gist.github.com/ludo6577/53691fd3e71204f2ff36

I understand the idea, but I can't get the plane to take off and also I noticed a bug: when I move the green planes in their place towards north they don't stop moving and exit from the map.
Knowing that you are working on a new version taake into consideration to increase the map/view size reducing the airborne aircraft dimension

As mentioned above i also got the same bug, first I thought it was one plane that just took of but then more and more paths stayed on the runway, that was a bit confusing. Also I think i didn't get any yellow and blue planes at all, did i just not play long enough or was there an error ?
Other than that great job and even better that you want to finish it. If you do, ping me if you like ^^

Cute concept, the controls were a little hard to get used to. Wish there was audio. Seems like there was debug lines still left in but the concept was simple and intuitive. Good work.

Good concept but I did not understand when refueling was complete. If there was some sort of feedback that would be really helpful. As others have mentioned above I also hit a bug where planes would just keep going off the map when they get to refuelling destinations. One last point, the top left and bottom right corners are a bit too similar in colour, I could not tell them apart so each time I sent a plane to them it was a guess of if it was the right one. I look forward to seeing what you do in the next iteration.

This has a lot of potential. I think a signal traffic management game is a fun take on the theme.
