Signals Crossed by Big Nose

[raw]
made by Big Nose for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

PLEASE USE THE HTML LINK The cropping is weird on LD site

A puzzle and memory game. I did not get to all the content and features i wanted. I was going to have hints come on screen at the start of each "tutorial" level and since I was unable here is the instructions:

wasd or hjkl to move.

Match each rune slab to the corresponding tile. Some runes have different interactions or "Signals" to other slabs.

I have the restart button which should be centered but I spent a good 2 hours debugging the position and sizing translations for web. If a stage is unsolvable it should give you an announcement and restart that stage. If you feel you are stuck use the restart button.

If you enjoy it let me know, I am deciding if I want to full release this game. If you want to support and stay in the loop head over to Thegamezbeplayed.com

Thanks!

It's hard to move the character when there's such a delay between clicks. I'm a bit used to classic games of this genre.
The mechanics are well-implemented, the graphics are also stylized, great work!

@greenradiation thank you, there is a bit of a delay programmed into the "turns" I originally wanted animations and lerping from tile to tile rather than the tile snapping. I could reduce it perhaps

I had a lot of problems playing this game. It looked cute, but the arrow keys were scrolling the game up and down in a frame within the web browser (which showed me a console at the bottom?)
On puzzle 2, the character stopped moving for me as well, which meant that I was unable to continue.

@shu-wen can you explain a bit? Was the LD screen giving trouble?

Nice work! It was a little rough with the UI issus in web, but I made it to the end! The web link didn't work for me, it got stuck on "downloading data" - apparently trying again just now it went through, but don't know why. Either way, some clever ideas here. I really liked figuring out the last puzzle. For awhile, though I'd have to cheat the system some way haha. So despite having a massive bug that took a huge chunk of your time, the game came together pretty well. But it is rough around the edges because of it. But I see the vision! Anyways, well done!

@t-c thank you. I am making some adjustments that should fix the web wonkiness. For starters I got rid of arrow key movement as i think some people were just wrestling with there browser scroll rather than playing the game

Cool mechanics taking shape in this one — I didn't quite get my head around the rules for when I can/can't push a tile into a blank to make floor vs hover it there, and I don't think I quite understood the second-to-last floor, but I did finish the game twice, and I had fun doing it!

The embedded player def seemed to struggle more than the one on your website, so I'd encourage others to try the html link version.

Also, big props for doing this with raylib+emscripten, not easy to do a full game in this timeframe while battling with the C-to-web build toolchain!

There is delay in game while Iplayer is moving, sometimes i moved twice and sometimes i pressed key to move but it doesn't move. The signals which I have to set on proper places looks is nice idea. In some levels player can moved signal in bad position but from this position is no way to continue and player must restart level. - on 3rd lvl I am able to get the signal on from the platform (from area) and game is still runing - I would expect autmoatically reset or info "this is not proper way" asi you have in 2nd lvl when user throw away wrong signal.

Cute game and soundtrack, like the idea and the puzzle design is looking like a promising start. Would definitely keep playing more levels!
Only confusion points were the first level symbols not matching for one of them, and the 3rd level completing even when the stone skipped over the mark!

@flameseer they are based on real runes I guess one is younger futhark, bot are the Fe symbol. Thank you I did intend on more levels

For some reason, the embedded game here wouldn't launch. Then I tried the link and it worked. I had to restart a few times because of some bugs. The music goes well with the puzzle.

@big-nose some times i've got off limits. Then i was unable to push the runes. Or maybe i'm the bug 😂

nice idea and i hope you can fix the issues that are coming from hosting it on LD.
I can add one more thing that is a bit weird you can open the console with spacebar in my gameinstance on LD, but cant close it xD.
The other version works fine on my end so gj on that one ^^

Took me some time to understand mechanics. Music was nice and on spot. Missed sound effects for feedback, so I was never very sure I did the right thing, until screen changed.

interesting little puzzle game. a couple levels were completed as soon as I touched one rune and it wasn't clear to me why I didn't need to interact with the other.

I like the puzzle concept here, especially how in later levels, moveing certain tiles affects other tiles as well. The last level was a real headscratcher till i figured out how to manipulate the movement of one of the tiles with the other. really satisfying figuring that out. I think that these interactions could be better explained as it is a lot of random trial and error to figure it out, but other than that really cool game

Nice idea for a puzzle game, I like how the blocks have special effects, and you need to figure out what the symbol means (what it does).
