Signal takeover by The Stage Hand

[raw]
made by The Stage Hand for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

you're a computer virus, and the only thing better than you is more of you, so you need to transfer yourself to the central computer, controlling robots with signals

CONTROLS

Click a bot to control it, click it again to cease controlling it A/D to move left & right W to jump (it's a bit finicky) SPACE to interact with terminals

The game is playable, so that's an achievement ^^

- Why can't you control two robots at once? Could be good for level design
- There should be some feedback, which robot is currently active

A pleasant platformer with an interesting concept. I really enjoyed playing it!
I agree with the previous comment – it would have been great to have some cool puzzles involving controlling two robots at once.
One issue I encountered was that some robots don't jump. This is especially true for the robots in the bottom row.

A very interesting game. Sometimes the jump is hard to trigger—I’m not sure if it’s a bug.

@su-yuhang it is yeah, i've been programming only 2 years and still have trouble on some basic stuff, like jumping

Very nice small game. I feel like theres alot to be explored with this kind of mechanics. Really wanted to see more :)

cool game for one person, interesting mechanic, but at one point I can't switch between robots, maybe I am pressing somewhere wrong? I'm clicking on other robot's body but still control the one I played

@crimsontrouper not sure if thats a bug or not. you do have to click a robot to remove the connection before clicking a different bot, if it wasn't that i didn't encounter an error like that, so maybe just reload the game or something?

@the-stage-hand Oh... it seems I clicked on other robots each time before and didn't notice 😅 I never clicked on the on purpose to disconect - it just worked. Maybe that's the problem... I'll try to click on them

@mischa-98 originally the game was gonna have a more intricate system for controlling different types of robots for different things,(the main robots for terminals, sentries for destorying robots, bombs for blowing up walls) but of course that didn't happen due to time constraints, and general burn out, but thats why that feature is like that.

also, yeah the feedback thing is a good idea, probablly would have tried something visual if not for the burn out.

It's a pretty cool concept, the jump being weird is annoying but the game was pretty short so It wasn't that bad. Level design being simple and understandable helped too. Main issue i see is that you do not quite get a feel that you are the virus and not the robots. I felt as if i was the robots directly, some kind of visual effect showing the virus taking control of the robots would be neat. Another nitpick is that the fanfare for interacting with the switches overstays its welcome, making it shorter is a good idea.
Cool game!

A really nice and creative idea. Definitely want to fix the buggy jumping in particular as that can kill immersion with a platformer. And it would be good to have some simple visual indicator for which robot is being controlled, along with maybe some animations. But overall the visuals were nice and I liked the door opening sound effect. The idea of having only enough signal to control one robot at a time fits well with the theme and the puzzles were well-designed - would like to see them be a bit more challenging, but they work well to get the point across. Nice job!
