Pied Piper TD by Onizik

[raw]
made by Onizik for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

A fast-paced tower defence where you're not a god-tier overseer — you're a guy on the ground with a noisy magic field, frantically dragging monsters into your own crossfire.

What to do

  • Prep phase — walk up to a build tile, pick a tower from the panel, pay the coin. Mix cheap gunners, splash-damage mortars, and mages. Plan your kill lanes.
  • Wave phase — enemies spawn from the portal and beeline for your houses. Towers auto-fire at whatever's in range, but projectiles don't home — they can and will miss fast movers. That's where you come in.
  • Bait them — hold the signal button to light up a field around yourself. Every enemy inside the field drops whatever it was doing and follows you. Your job is to be a leash: pull packs into tower crossfire,
peel them off buildings, kite them in circles.
  • Earn, rebuild, repeat — finish the wave, collect gold (scaled by how much damage your town took), buy more towers, brace for the next one.

Really really cool idea. The mage tower felt incredibly weak compared to the other two. It would be much more engaging if the player had a health bar so and had to coral the enemies without getting hit. Great job on a really awesome idea.

good idea, would be cool if there were less enemies, but you had a healthbar aswell and had to dodge them.

Very well balanced! I was able to beat it first try, but it was down to a sliver of HP on one remaining building! Seems like the winning strategy is to go all in on defending one or two of the buildings. It did confuse me as to why enemies at the edge of my signal radius seemed to get pushed away. I also agree that the player having health would have made it more intense. Still super fun!

i like the concept of luring the enemies with your character. that's pretty novel

It's a pretty fun game. The art could definitely be better, but we all have to start somewhere. Good job!

Such a kind, cheerful little game. I cracked up at how the spiders turn friendly and come running to listen to the flute :)

The visuals are simple yet the gameplay is fun. It also has a tutorial, making it a great game.

I’ve got that flute tune stuck in my head… the mechanic for charming enemies within a certain radius is really clever btw. Congrats :)

The game was fun and challenging, although the spiders eventually got the better of me. I did miss the ability to repair buildings for money little bit.

It was fun when there were a lot of spiders on the screen. But there are problems with the balance, of course, but it was fun anyway.

Really fun. I liked the pied piper twist on the classic tower defense style. Definitely felt fresh and new for me. Was able to play all the way through to the end and win :)

Неплохой тавер дефенс, но было бы интереснее, если бы у игрока тоже было хп

Fun tower defense game! Nice level of challenge, though once you only have one house left, it becomes pretty easy to just keep the spiders in your signal range and prevent them from eating the last house. Like the programmer art, the spiders are actually kind of intimidating. :D

Nice spin on the tower defense mechanic. I think the path finding need some work, the spiders often get stuck when there are still houses left. Also upgrading the character's abilities could be a fun addition (like laying mines for the spiders to step on or maybe areas that slow them down).

Pretty cool concept! It got a bit hard to not lose buildings with the amount of spiders but I guess with a better placement strategy I would have done better haha
A musical idea: Perhaps keeping the music playing at all times and adding a layer when using the radar?
Anyway cool entry :)

Heya, thank you for submitting the game to my stream ♥ I think there is a lot of potential in this game idea and primarily polish that is lacking. For example that spiders might get lured for a wee bit longer after they are out of range, just so you dont have to juggle them as much. Also in it current form it seems like the most optimal strategy might be to just focus on a singular house and just let all the others die? More incentives to keep all houses intact would be cool, or greater punishment for losing a house. Maybe not being able to lure the enemies indefinetly would be good. Currently it was a bit wacky that you could just stand around one house and just lure the spiders away forever without any punishment.

Also curious if it was a bug that spiders sometimes were stuck/got pushed away right at the edge of the song range?

A great TD concept - the core idea is strong. That said, with the aggro mechanic I’d like to see some risk on the player’s side too (e.g., HP), plus a clearer upgrade path: speed, aggro range, and player power-ups to go with it. Overall though, the concept is excellent.

The game could use some polish - there are issues with spiders getting stuck. But for a 3-day jam, it’s a really solid piece of work.
