Sun Wizard Stocking Gang by HadMatter00

[raw]
made by HadMatter00 for Ludum Dare 59 (JAM)

Hard times have fallen on the Sun Wizard Stocking Gang. The Moon Wizard Rage Gang Leader has jumped you and your homie, two of its newest recruits, stealing your wand and your homie's glasses. These two sock puppets must now rely on each other and thug their way to the Rage Lord and get their Revenge. You, as a mute wandless wizard, must communicate to your homie which spells to cast and when using the legendary “Sun Wizard Stocking Gang Hand Signals™”. Can you fight your way through the Rage Lord's Hordes (3 rats and 2 sock puppets) and reclaim your stuff? Maybe 🤷‍♂️

The implementation of sock puppets is so fun! Also love the use of hand sign language as a feature.

I am not a sock gangsta :(

The art style is awesome and it must've been a blast to make. I hope you keep the socks in a display cabinet somewhere

When I saw this, I knew I had to play it. It's so fun and absurd that it's genius. I would love to see more games like this on Steam. Keep going, it's a great style.

Holy moly this game has so much charm to it! The gameplay was a bit tough to do in real time. Or, at least I had a hard time memorizing the different elemental blocks to use. Maybe some pop up prompts would help or slowing down the combat a bit? Regardless, this was super well done. Great job!

Neat game, super unique style! The hand gestures thing was interesting, but my limited focus meant I couldn't really remember more than 2 spells at any given moment, and there was no way I'd remember that many hand signals and what letter they correspond to. So I just pushed my way through the game using only fireball and firewall. It worked, was more a timing and resource management game at that point. Clever idea, well done!

I love this game. Reminds me of other games that have interesting casting systems. I love the random dialogue between combats. My best attempt was spamming fireball and earthwall, which got me to the final boss then immediately died. Once you get a feel for the spells, its very fun just launching them out at rapid speed. Very fun!

LOVE your game's vibes! The crafty art style works so well with the hand signal mechanics, and the sock puppet/papercraft characters really made me smile. The spell list is definitely a bit overwhelming (I ended up crutching on two spells that I really learned), but flinging spells quickly back-to-back is very satisfying!

I LOVEEEED THIS, the style and charm are off the charts. I will say though, I feel like there's too many spells! At least, trying to memorize all of them to utilize them effectively is kind of a moot point - my winning strategy was to just memorize Fireball + Fire Wall and use those two on rotation, timing the wall whenever the enemy was about to attack and tanking any damage I took from the elemental mismatches. Still it was really tense and I only barely managed to win. Loved it overall, one of my favs from the jam for sure. Great job!

Such fun vibes! I wouldn't have minded a turn-based battle so I could have had a chance to learn different spells without time pressure - from what little I experienced of repeating the same two spells it was really fun to actually feel like I learned the arcane signals. :D

Really funny, and cool to see another weird hand signal game! The graphics are super cool and the whole tone of the game made me laugh. I was able to get into the fantasy of slinging spells by learning 1 attack and 1 defense spell by heart. It was a little hard to memorize it with so many spells and so many options, plus the translation between letters and hand signals. I think it would have been a bit more fun for me if it was the spells were just a touch more simple, so I could memorize all the spells, and then the combat could get harder to compensate. Cool game I had a great time!
