SpeedFishing by Mesa

[raw]
made by Mesa for LD 40 (UNFINISH)

This was supposed to be a game where you play as a fisherman, who drives out into the water and collects fish. But you must collect these fish and return to the starting area within the limit of a timer. Along the way, there are obstacles that you would need to avoid crashing into or being chased by. The more fish you collect, the heavier your boat gets, and therefore the worse your acceleration, braking, and steering work, thus making it more and more difficult as your score gets higher.

Ludum Dare 40 didn't go quite as expected, and a lot of features in this game are currently incomplete. Basically I ran out of time because I didn't fully consider the amount of time I was going to be spending coding a lot of the core subsystems of my game engine after switching to C++ and SFML. But, nonetheless, I did produce something usable, but not exactly "playable". And despite all of the difficulties in programming said engine subsystems, I made them reusable so they won't trip me up during the next Ludum Dare, so a lot of good came out of this experience.

Downloads are available at https://github.com/aebarber/LD40/releases (tag LD40 is the one for the game as it was when Ludum Dare ended). You can download a pre-built binary from there, or you can build the code yourself. To build it, you will need CMake and SFML. At the moment, I am only able to provide binaries for Linux and Windows, as I do not have a Mac computer to build with, but if anybody out there has the ability to build it and send me a copy of the build binary, I will upload it for others to use.

I will be continuing to update this game for a while, and I do intend to fully finish it, now free of the looming deadline that prevented me from sleeping for the last 29 hours of the jam. Hopefully I'll be able to provide a lot of the triaged features. If it turns out to be fun enough, I might see if I can port it to android as well.
