My Witch Shop (unfinished) by tinyworlds

[raw]
made by tinyworlds for LD 41 (UNFINISH)

ezgif.com-optimize (1).gif

The original game idea: You sell weapons & potions during the day to monsters & go during the night in the dungeon to gather new loot for your store.
The twist is that some of the monsters you sell stuff to may appear later in the dungeon with the items you sold them.
So you gotta be smart about who to trust.

Sadly I ran into mayor last minute bugs that broke the shop part of the game, so here is only a glimpse at the roguelike part. Have fun! (You can't really win as is, in case you're wondering)

Controls: Arrow keys to walk and E to attack.
Opt'd out of audio because I used resources for that (from Opengameart).

The Art! WOW! I love pixel art, and you managed to make the best of it! Despite game being not fully finished, I like the idea. Music is also what caught my ear haha. Good job on these elements!

By the looks of what you have, this could be really good. I was looking forward to seeing how the shop mechanic worked and was disappointed to read that it was not in working order. Graphics and sound are very nicely done for what you have.

When I saw you post about this game during the compo, I wanted to play it right away. I really liked the art! If you finish it,(you should) I want to play it. It would make a great game.

I really like the idea of your game. It's unfortunate that you didn't finish in time, but if you are going to finish it sometime, I would love to try it out! Also, I really like the graphics :)

The pixels are so so cute  I'm sorry you had problems at the end of the jam, but you know, it happens to us all!

@brandann It's done with Stencyl, which has visual ~~coding~~ scripting. But if you're interested in that I can upload the source file :)

Lovely start! The feel of the game is a lot of fun, with the animation and controls (the screen shake made me a little dizzy, though). It would be terrific to see this taken further, so I hope you stick with it! If so, drop us a line at WeekendPanda on Twitter or something, because I'd love to play more. Nice job!

@Weekend-Panda That's interesting, I didn't know people get dizzy from screenshake sometimes. If I'm gonna continue it I'm gonna add an option to disable it :)

I like the art and the music a lot. It's a shame you didn't have the time to make the shop part of the game in time for the end of the jam, but I encourage you to continue on your own time because this is looking quite promising!

Whole idea sounds nice. Still what you got here looks like very pleasant roguelike. One thing i would change is shooting, beeing unable to aim without walking killed me very fast in every of 3 attempts.

I loved the idea and really want to play the finished game. Please don't give up on this!

The art is great and feels juicy. I'll certainly check your timelapse and post mortem.

In the gameplay itself what put me off me was being unable to shoot up and down, but it was still a preview of the fun it can be with the different monsters and bosses and additional content in general.

Keep up the good work. ^-^

Wow! I really love the attention to detail you have put into this game. The feedback on every feature is super good, I love the bit of recoil with your shots, the bits of screen shake, the sound effects. Everything that you've done really make this game feel grounded and fun to play!

Great graphics, and I can definitely see the Vlambeer influence on this. It is unfortunate that you didn't get to finish the shop part, since that sounds like a really interesting system. I also sort of wish that the player moved a little faster and could shoot up and down.

Hope you finish this off, the art style is just perfect and even in the unfinished state it was enjoyable. The player could move a bit faster and maybe be able to shoot up and down too? Really liked what's there, great work!

What's there is really gorgeous and feels great to play. The concept sounded interesting as well, it's a shame you didn't get to implement it fully. I failed to complete my entry for an LD a while back so I know how it feels!

Cool start. I liked very much how physical, it felt with a the shots. The graphics were also great. It was a bit annoying to only be able too shoot left-right and at times it felt like the controls were a bit slow compared to the monsters. At least for level 1. On the other hand my shots traveled a bit too far, I think because I was hurting things I couldn't see. Speaking of which, it was btw possible to leave the visible area of the game. I wonder what treasures were hiding out there...

I like the graphics a lot and the current game seems like a promising basis. For what i saw input feedback was well done, firing had some intensity to it. I also liked your original idea. I hope you continue working on it and look forward to playing a more functional version. I do believe though, that in order to be fun the finished game would need a sustainable amount of content (items, monsters, levels ?).

As some have already said it would be cool to be able to aim you shots (maybe isaac like, wasd to move, arrows to shoot or something like that).

Good job and good luck for what you'll do next.

Very cute graphics. The animations are very well done and there is a lot of juice in there, like the highlight of the enemies when hit, the healthbars, and so on.
I found the keyboard controls a little bit awkward (shooting with E?) and I would have loved to play that with a Gamepad.
Music and sounds are great and create a nice mood.

I would love to see where you take this game further on!

did I finished the game? didn't saw anything todo at this point. it's a good start for sure, the graphics are cute and only sideways attacks make it kinda interesting, keep on the post jam version

Too bad you ran into problems and out of time. But as far as you managed it was great. The ideas of what you were planning to add would probably have made it even better. Nice if it is completed at an later date, I would love to play the complete version in that case : )

But other then that I really liked concept and the simple and a bit cute pixle art. The gameplay was just as good as well, as far as it went. d(>_< ) Great Work!!
