Hi everyone, I am a 12 year old game developer and this is my very first Ludum Dare entry. I am in 6th grade and because school is closed I was able to join Ludum Dare 46. I look forward to all the upcoming competitions. I hope you enjoy playing PowerCore.

PowerCore is a game where the objective is to keep the PowerCore alive. Monsters will attack the PowerCore and it is your job to defend. Throughout the game you can buy/upgrade turrets, and purchase upgrades for your player to help defend from waves of monsters which progressively get more difficult. Use WASD to move and use arrow keys to shoot. You can use space to roll/dash. To navigate the menus use the up arrow and down arrow and space. To purchase upgrades and turrets, use E, R, and Q.

Overall, your game was fun to play. Running around, shooting enemies with a barrage of projectiles, upgrading my power core and building turrets... All fun mechanics which you implemented well, so great job!

I also loved the main menu art and the simplistic yet intriguing game art. Great job with these.

I have a few nitpicks I want to mention however. First, the turrets didn't feel too powerful. I shoot at such a faster rate than turrets that it almost felt like the turrets weren't worth the money.

Next, enemies would spawn after the wave ended for a short period of time. I'm assuming this is because the game is enabling the text after the last enemy spawns and not when the last enemy is defeated. Regardless, this confused me for a second.

Finally, it took many waves for different enemy types to spawn. The core gameplay is easy to understand. I felt as though waves were dragged out before the game picked up in difficulty. I think that the game, while it is already fun, would be much more enjoyable if it scaled in difficulty faster.

Overall, this game is fun, which I personally value the most in a game. Despite the few nitpicks I mentioned, I could see myself playing this game for a while, before realizing how much time has passed. I hope you decide to expand upon the game - your core mechanic is down, now it just needs more content.

Great job :)

Hey @shaubbyplayz - If you can export the game to HTML or Mac then more people (me) would be able to try it, I don't know what it's written in, but hopefully you can port :)

Looks interesting, looks pretty fast too. Well done

@tolmera thank you for your comment, I am using gamemaker and I do not have the web liscene to port to HTML at this point. Is there any other way to do this.

I would ask if anyone else on the forum has the HTML license and see if they can export it for you :). (I've also used GML before, and the lack of export capacity sucks. so I feel your pain on that.

Thanks @tolmera. If anybody could go to the source code and export the game to HTML5 it would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

This was pretty fun! I liked the music and the art was fun to look at. (If you made and art you should add an those categories, because I liked them alot)

When I was first playing the game it felt really good. I was constantly moving, everything was really close and I felt challenged. It was very hard to get through a wave unscathed. The movement speed upgrade helped me get better response time to slimes appearing on screen, but then I think the slimes also got faster maybe. It felt like I got stronger but the enemies also got stronger and that felt good still. The part where it broke down was once I started buying turrets. As soon as I had a fully upgraded turret the game became way too easy. And as soon as I had 2 I basically didn't have anything to do anymore. I think the game would've benefited from some more balancing on the turrets or like, having enemies that specifically attack turrets or something?

Regardless of that, it was a fun time! Great work :)
