Backwards Quest by Lone_Wolf

[raw]
made by Lone_Wolf for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

You find yourself in a room, there is a dead body beside a strange note, and to the north there is a doorway. You were dead a few seconds ago, but now you aren't. Who are you? Where are you? ~~I'll do you one better: Why are you?~~ Should you go through the doorway?

Good game here, a little difficult to control and a struggled to bet the first boss.

I really struggled with the first boss, having a health pool rather than a single hit might have been an improvement.

@deadmanjw @indigowolf thanks for playing!
I wanted to have it so that you had to take the same amount of damage as your past self that originally fought through the boss, but I ran into a slight issue with doing the player health bar and decided to leave it until I finished more important parts of the game, never got the time sadly.

I figured controls might be a little weird at first but once you master them you can easily cheese the first boss. There are some tight blind spots where bullets don't cover.

I might try out using Arrow Keys/Mouse to aim the character's attacks if I get around to doing the post-jam version

@ruslanch Thanks for playing!

Why didn't you rate me in audio/theme? I feel like I covered those categories. Got any extra feedback that would explain why?

Neat idea! Rather too short on content to say much about, but the boss fight was a cool little implementation of your idea.

I like the music a lot, and the particle effects were well done especially for the doors/portals and the projectiles, i like the bullet hell boss. The attack pattern was pretty repetitive, more variation could go a long way on the boss fight. The story had no business being that air tight, lol, could have chalked it up to magic powers and would have had the same effect. World looked good and i liked that the slider was immediately available on the main menu. Keep up the good work!

Very cool idea, working deeper backwards in time! Unfortunately, I'm terrible at bullet hell type games and when 1 hit is all you get that means I didn't make it any further than the second battle (not for lack of trying - I died _a lot_).

a checkpoint system could work well. It seemed like you had one, but after a single respawn to battle 2 dying sent me right back to the start of the game :(

That said, the game looks nice, has a clever story idea, and I like the music! Good entry!

Okay, death at the beginning was very unexpected

Very interesting game, however,the movement will slide to the side when close to the ship, which make the operation very strange

Funny concept, too bad you couldn't go further with that idea, I got really interested by that intro. The boss fight was a bit too simple for me, but it was well done anyway.

The boss difficulty makes sense considering how short the game is, good take on the theme but its pretty generic gameplay could be more creative. And I realize you didnt have much time with the compo, I did the compo for the first time too after doing the jam for a long time, its a very different type of challenge for sure.

My understanding is that this game is based on a sort of reverse-time narrative? It seems like a pretty neat idea -- I enjoyed trying to fight the boss both forwards and backwards in time.

I also agree that the death at the very beginning is a pretty neat moment.

One other note: I enjoyed the music.
