as for bouncing of the screen, i will likely fix that after ldjam as well
Is that expected?
I agree with a few of the other comment that the bouncing takes you out of the action a bit, the sudden stop is a bit jarring and I found myself disappointed because I just want to go fast! Tried your updated version and it's definitely an improvement. It's a bit annoying when you die to a red brick off screen too, but don't know whether you should change that or not!
Other that that the only other suggestion I have is to show my previous best time once I complete the level (or furthest distance if you've never completed it) - just so I know what my record is to beat!
Overall, very enjoyable game though!
There were brief moments where I really picked up speed and just started crushing through the white blocks, which was super fun. The speed (even before picking up the green) did make it tough to dodge anything with any real precision - I was mostly just moving left and right and hoping to get lucky.
Overall, I enjoyed the simplicity of the gameplay and the graphics - it let you jump right in and start playing immediately. Nice job!
I do get mild motion sickness when I gain speed and I THINK a big part of it is all the dots in the background. You might be able to sell the same effect of speed by reducing the number of dots and/or make them vertical lines instead. I'm not entirely sure if it is the dots causing it or not, but it might be something to try
- great simple graphics and art style
- the game is highly replayable
- adheres to the theme
Improvements/Suggestions:
- have a scoreboard so players are encouraged to compete with themselves through replay
- add some sounds to give the impacts and powerups more feel
- an arrow pointing to where you are when you bounce offscreen and how far away you are (meters, pixels, whatever)
- a simple droning background music would add to the feel of the gam
Bugs:
- I didn't find any
