Minelight

Minelight

The story

The dwarves need a more ecofriendly way to light their mine, so they built something to channel just enough sunlight into their deepest tunnels. Unfortunately they are not very good at reading construction plans, and now they need your help to put mirrors and change the orientation of each level so that the light reaches the bottom end.

Instructions

  • The goal is to bring the light down to the lowest level.
  • You are inside a square hole in the ground, and can only see one wall of it at a time.
  • There are six levels numbered from 1 to 6. You can only see two levels at a time, but can go up or down to see the others. Each level can be rotated independently from the others.
  • The light comes from above the first level, and light pipes becomes bright yellow when light is passing through them. Click on a junction tile to place, rotate, or remove a mirror, in order to bounce light a different way
  • Press the W or S key to select the upper or lower level. Press again to scroll one level upper or lower
  • Press the A or D key to rotate the selected level, in order to line its lightpipes to those of the level above and under
  • Press the Q or E key to turn around, to look to the wall on your left or your right. Since the hole is square, turning four times in a direction brings you back to the same wall.

Nice looking game and the concept is nice, but I never figured out how to play. I don't really understand what I am doing with all of the different keys. Some more instruction text would help, you don't even need to change the game.

kind of confusing at first, maybe the sides should be mapped to a cube or something. i like the idea though!

The gameplay was very confusing but it seems like an interesting idea.

Quite a difficult game, if the idea was about connecting the pipes? Good concept and idea, more originality than many other games I've rated!

I think that this game could have used a little bit more polish. I get the idea of transferring the yellow tube, but it seems like no matter how I try to orient some of the pieces I am never able to get it to go down into the next section. I think that if there were maybe some animations for rotating pieces, that would help greatly to show what exactly is changing when you press the keys. Good adherence to theme and effort overall!

I like the idea of bouncing light down into a mine! Wnfortunately I really couldn't make any sense of where I was in the mine or what the controls did.

I too had difficulties figuring out what to do. Could you maybe rephrase the instructions to the game? What does it mean to "turn around"?

Man this is mind bending!

Got it to the 6th level but than my brains exploded xD
haha

Well done though!

Just wow.
Definitely too complex to understand. But a very nice idea.

The pussle seems realy great, I am to dumb to finish it XD. The mirror/changing light direction mechanic could be a bit better tutorialized.

It's hard to find out what to do only seeing the wasd controls. Took me some time to realize you can click on the junctions. Once I did, it was fun though.

Thanks for the input everyone, I understand the controls are very hard to "get", I'll try to rephrase:

As the player you are inside the mine, looking at a wall. There are 4 walls around you, and you can look around by pressing Q or E, or clicking the top buttons.

The view is also focused on a single floor, which you can see with the purple outline.

You can rotate the selected floor around you by pressing A or D, or clicking the left and right arrow buttons. Doing so will connect or disconnect pipes.

You can also select the upper or lower floor with W or S, or clicking the up and down arrow buttons.

Finally, you can **place mirrors on the junction tiles** by simply clicking on those tiles.

**If you don't place any mirror there is no way you can get to the 6th level.**

I hope this helps. We could have added more hints or animations in-game, but we're just programmers so it would have been tough.

And congrats @evogengames for managing to get to the last level, we know it is quite challenging! :D

It sure is hard!! Took me some time to figure out the game, I got it to level 6 so I'm pretty happy. pretty cool concept, but a bit hard to visualize what's happening just in 2D. you may want to try that concept in 3D. Really nice work though!

Ok, with a little of practice I get it. I don't know how you had this confusing idea xD but it's a nice little puzzle :ok_hand:

this is a really cool concept and looks very smart but I can't quite wrap my head around how it works... I think it if was rendered in 1st person inside a 3D cube I'd feel better equipped to understand how to play

I skipped the instructions and moved things around for 5 minutes. Came back and read the instructions and started placing mirrors. Fun puzzle game

even though i read the instructions i missed the part about the mirrors. once i figured that out it started to be fun. that said, the controls still seemed a little clunky and it was easy to get lost. maybe a couple of smaller puzzles to learn the control might have helped. thanks for making the game.

I was able to get the light to level six, but it was tricky. Good puzzle.
