made by XeduR for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Gone Diggin' is a simple game about a simple dwarf that simply wants to dig for gold, but to get to that gold, he must go deeper and deeper.

How to play: - Simply move by using the arrow keys or WASD. Gather as much gold as you can before the time runs out. - You gain additional time by gathering gold and the timer starts once you've collected 3 gold deposits. - Press Q at any point to restart the game.

Seemed the world wasnt deep, but once you get deeper, liked the way you implemented infinite depths. Music was good, and the game is fast paced, fast to die, as you need a ton of gold

I like the infinite depth mechanic, and the globe like map/level too. Great job. Maybe for a future Ludum Dare you could try to do more with the audio. Needless to say, great job with your entry.

@modoc73 Thanks! I agree about the audio. It was the second last thing that I did when I had around half an hour left and I still needed to draw the floorboards for the digging paths, so I didn't have as much time as I had originally hoped to spend on audio.

Really fun game, I really enjoyed the infinite mechanic, graphics are fine and do the job really well, audio could be improved but I understand the time limit can be hard for a compo. Great game for a comp ! Gratz

This was a lot of fun! My first play through I discovered very quickly that I couldn't go back up and ran out of time.. My second run through went much better. Great contribution!

Really fun game! Great core gameplay and nice pace, instantly puts you into the action when you start over. Nice, addictive. I really liked the music too!

Simple mechanics but really fun to play. The infinite level system was cleverly done.

Looks and feels polished. I liked the way you chained the rooms of the mine together. My only criticism is that it was very difficult (at least for me) and I would have liked to play longer and get deeper. All in all it's very well done!

I managed to get a high score of 27 after I came up with the strat of waiting to find a rich vein before starting. It's kind of annoying how you can get softlocked by digging down between three stone blocks; but that's pretty minor. I loved the rotating level, not sure how you implemented that tbh.

I like to overall aesthetic, especially the mine shaft that i was digging out. Nice decision to have the time start after picking 3 gold. I could plan a strong starting point. The infinite dig is pretty neat too!

The visuals are awesome, the controls accurate.
The obvious exploitation was not to dig up any gold, and see how deep I could go.. But I soon got stuck in stone dead ends :(

Great work!!

Neat game, though it's a bit weird to have gold get sparser the deeper you go. I got as high as 54 in the handful of runs I did.

Great game! I like it.
It's great that the time doesn't start counting until you pick up the first gold.

I love this pseudo-3D-like effect! Flawless execution of a simple but effective idea! I managed to get 32 points after a couple of attempts -- it seems that luck was getting more important than skill. I wouldn't have minded playing a little longer and maybe have more variety (What about TNT that blows up stone around you? What about ladders?). I imagine this could be developed into a very addicting little game!

Really well done! :D

@phi Interesting that you brought up TNT and ladders, because a few hours after I had submitted this game, I had an idea of limited power ups, like having a few ladders and sticks of dynamite when the game starts.

Absolutely love the odd tunnel perspective of this game! The mechanic is super fun, although it's a bit too stressful for my taste. I would love to explore a world with this clever use of perspective though. :) Well done!

Fun and very replayable. The way the levels rotate but you can still keep digging down was pretty unique, and the mechanics are simple, solid and fun. Great art too! My main criticism is that the action's over so quickly. I'd have loved a bit more depth to really get invested in a run. As it is, I feel like I'm just getting started and then I'm out of time.

Very fun game! I love how the world rotates around and "zooms in" when you dig deeper, it fits the theme very well! Also I love how the timer adds a real frantic energy to the game. What is the story reason for the timer I wonder? Is our dwarf so addicted to gold that he suffers from withdrawal if he doesn't have a constant supply? Music is a bit repetitive but better than nothing. Overall I like this game a lot!

I agree with a lot of previous comments: Fast-n-fun, the _false globe_ perspective, re-playable, good graphics, repetitive music...

I liked it.

Good game, loved the view with the current level being the same size all the time, but the rest being bigger or smaller. My highscore is 25, which is yours?
The music is too repetitive, I would prefer something more mood-setting.
Good job

@laurari I played the game quite a bit while testing, maybe too much since I didn't have time to create better audio for the game. My highscore is 73. :stuck_out_tongue:

I leked the mechanic and camera, it ws very unique. Sometimes I think the control doesnt work? or maybe theres a lit bit of delay, but can be on purpose. great game =)
