(Also, needs more Florida Man.)
I don't know why, but I kept thinking the orange where cookie and we were planting cookie tree until I read the comment here and it suddenly made sense ^^ I'm living in such a cold weather country that tree + orange colored circle didn't mean orange tree for me hehe. (not that cookie tree are more logical :p)
The game was super easy to get into, after my first death, I was able to understand perfectly how to play, it just took me an extra attempt to realize I could plant the branch to make a wood tree. This was the only not obvious part.
Fun game!
I sort of wish there was an additional way to interact with the alligators. Also maybe more incentive to actually plant, I feel like just managing aggro and gathering is actually a more reliable way to win than planting, since you need to get 2 complete harvests together for planting to even net profit.
Next time try to make do with less buttons so the game is a bit easire to learn - for example have auto pickup of no item in inventory and then have a single interaction key (e.g. E - switch item for current, build, hold to eat)
I think the control scheme is needlessly complicated. Why not have a simple "interact" button, which can be used to plant, harvest, pick up or build? Usually at a single spot there's only one thing to do, so having to find the right button is a pointless hassle.
You should have opted in for the humour category, the premise, as well as the "oranges and gators" depiction of Florida life is hilarious.
