Miner Rescue by mjbelanic

[raw]
made by mjbelanic for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Description: Following a massive cave in, you have been sent in to find all the missing miners. You must find all of the miners before the time is up while making sure you yourself do not succumb to toxic gasses or dangerous spikes. Thankfully the Miner Rescue Transport comes equipped with hover and drill capabilities. Use these to traverse the dangerous the mines as you go deeper and deeper to find everyone.

Controls: Move Left: Left Arrow / A Move Right: Right Arrow / D Hover: Up Arrow / W Drill: E

Rules: Find all 50 miners before time is up. If you run out of energy or health you will lose. There are three types of pickups you can find around the level and each will assist you to completing the level. Hourglass -> Adds more time Health tank -> Recover health Energy tank -> Recover energy

Spikes and Toxic clouds will impact your health so try to avoid driving through them for too long.

Notes: This is my first time really messing with audio. Nothing should be too loud, but just be careful.

Change log: Learned Itch.io won't play sounds if the pitch is less than 1. This caused sounds not to play. Editted pitch on hover and drill sound effect. Now they should play. Bug fix: Some pickups were counting as double value. All pickups now only count as one.

I really like the vehicle, reminds me of Thunderbirds are Go! It's a big level, didn't manage to save everyone, but quite a few. Could use some sound effects when you are losing health. Thanks for making this!

The vehicle handling in the game is a bit odd. The vehicle tends to stick to walls when you try to move vertically past them. Sometimes this is good as you can easily kill your vertical speed if you are headed to spiked/gas cloud. In other case when you want to fit into a 1-tile hight cave it is not.

The cave system all looks similar so unless you already know where to look for the miners, it is pretty hard to get them all in time as likely you have missed a couple in the opposite sides of the map.

This was a pretty fun game but if I had to say one improvement use another font and make a main menu. You can use text mesh pro if you use unity.

Nice Idea, but the controls are a bit too clumsy. I kept getting stuck in wall or on corner losing precious energy!
*Hovering* is near impossible, the control are not sensible enough, sometimes it triggers sometimes it seems to miss the input...

Graphics are simple but cool and effective!

It's a fun and challenging game! My only issue was sometimes getting stuck on walls but it wasn't game breaking or anything. Nevertheless, good concept and execution of your game.

My main problem is that the veiclo got stuck a lot. Other then that i was able to rescore about 35 miners before run out of energy

More fun than I was expecting! I liked having to balance the ship to avoid the obstacles. Simple art style, but felt consistent. The vehicle did get stuck on the sides of walls easy. Fixing that would really add to the experience. Overall solid entry!

Cute gravity game. I liked the concept of a drilling machine! Seemed to be a bug where I would get momentarily trapped at the corner of a block. Also, the levitation was a little slow to get off the ground. Maybe future versions could have a fully mineable environment - not just grey blocks? Keep up the good work!

I had fun for a while playing this game, I liked discovering the big level. The car was a bit tricky to drive at times, it would get stuck to the wall, and sometimes wouldn't go up. I also think some sort of feedback (audio or visual) when you lose health would have made the game clearer, now it took me a while to discover the green stones did damage.

Cool game. Would be nice to have some sort of HUD to show where everyone is, so I know which general areas to head for. Wasn't too much of a problem, because I didn't get that close to 50 (maybe around 30), but I assume if I did it would end up being an issue. Agree with the player who mentioned getting stuck on walls - often had to use more energy than I wanted to get unstuck.
