Super charming artstyle! I really like how the submarine controls, it never gets hitched up on surfaces or anything else. I would like if there was a little more animation, like your sub turning left / right depending on which way you were moving. Great job!

Doesn't happen all that often. Out of 60 coins I collected 2 were in walls.

Neat game. Tickles my completionist mentality even though I'm pretty sure it's procedural generation.

@123seven3 yes, it is procedurally generated, but I want to add biomes and different fish/corals/etc to make it more interesting to keep going downward. It was so much fun making the graphics that I just want to make more. Thank you for telling me about the coins in the walls, I didn't know that was happening.

@ceejap I agree, that animation would really make it a lot better. It's my next thing to learn. Thank you!

I love the attention to detail on the fish movements and animations! The procedural generation looks awesome!

At first I did not realize that the bigger fish were hurting me, so I died very unexpectedly :joy: Some clearer (visible/audible) feedback would be nice (it was also hard to see which fish hurt and which don't).

Also, I didn't hear any sound (on Firefox). If there isn't any, it is possible to opt-out of the audio category, to avoid low ratings ;) (because there is an incentive for people to rate in every available category, to get more "coolness").

Overall nice submission! I hope you continue developing it after the jam! :)

Nice game, I like the art style. Could benefit from some audio and animations. Nice work :)

@phi there is sound, but it's just low background noise, and a funny thump when you run into a wall. Thank you for playing, I think I'd like to develop it further.

@mtwhateverest thank you for playing. I agree more sounds, and music, would help a lot.

@lelulagames Audio doesn't seem to work for me at all (the audio icon doesn't even show up in my browser tab). Here's my console output, if that's of any help: https://gist.github.com/saeub/f5ac4e4b67bb084f11e281a35c383757

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 86.0

@phi thank you. The audio only happens after you press play. I might have to do some tests for that.

Love the artsyle, the lack of audio is a bit disjointing. With additional mood music/sounds I think this game will be very good!

I tried to say hi to the big rainbow fish, I waited for him: it didn't go well! XD
The artstyle is amazing, guys! I loved every fish, big or small: even the scary one is cute!
The game-play isn't very challenging, but I enjoyed playing your game!

Simple but well done, I thought it lacked some feedback on hit, I noticed I had lost a heart without noticing it happen. Nice entry

Wooh, that anglerfish almost got me! Fun game, and cool procedural generation. It'd be nice to see how many coins you've collected somewhere. Nice job!

@xjazzaxx It just has a background sound of water, and some bumps when you run into the walls. Not sure why some people aren't hearing it, I'll have to look into that.

@franca thank you. I love drawing fish, I have even more to add in an update later.

@rongefilet yes, feedback and animation when you turn are the two things I want to do first. Thanks for playing.

@brainloaf-studio Ah, thank you! The coins are counted in the upper right of the screen.

Cool little descender - nicely drawn graphics, like the liveliness of the small fish and their dashes.
Gameplay wise it was pretty safe going mostly. might have been a bit more challenging if there were some more restrictions / dangers there. :)

(Didn't seem to have much sound going on, which I now read was supposed to be in there.)

What a cute, colorful, fi--AHH I'M DEAD

Definitely would've liked some indicators that you were getting hurt. It was hard for me to tell which types of fish would hurt me. I suppose the bigger ones do and the smaller ones don't, but could they also be distinguished in terms of coloring or brightness or something else that warns danger?

Also, the game was so tall that it didn't fit on my screen, so on my first playthrough, I didn't realize there was UI at the top telling me how many lives or coins I had gathered.

It looks like you already have the right idea for how to improve the game (biomes) so I look forward to seeing what other art comes out of this!

A delightfully simple game, I think the hardest part is judging which fish are going to kill you, @carraka 's point of having a metric to tell you how much more damage you can sustain at the bottom of the game, the tallness of the game mean's as I play I cannot see this too easily

Feedback given and happy testing :)

@carraka @adamr oh, I didn't even realize the ui would be a problem like that. I made it android dimensions, and disabled full screen. I think I know a solution, though, I will have to implement it after LD. Thank you for letting me know.

Also knock back and a hit indicator. Added to list. Thank you!

amazing artstyle, really nice style and all decorations and species left into place extending immersion. Also ambient sound was good and fitting the theme. There were some moments that fell out of place - like very generic unity particles for coins - for this art style I would recomend draw particles as animation by frames. And gaps between walls, but thats probably just a bug) still a nice entry!

This game reminds me little bit of upside down "River Raid" somehow :) Nice graphics, especially fish. Sometimes you can get stuck when you touch the ground, but you can manage to release yourself after a while. Maybe I would have try to make this game more difficult while you're going deeper and deeper. It would be nice to hear some toned down music maybe. Nice work!

The game look cool, but the gameplay is a bit lackluster. The movement could've been acceleration based, plus, if you had to avoid the both the walls and the fish, the game would've been more challenging and interesting. With some polish, it could be a decent mobile game.

Love the art of this game, and the ambient background sound feels cool. It's definitely missing a sound for taking damage (I didn't even notice sometimes), and also for picking up coins. The fact that there was such a prominent sound for running into walls made me think at first that I needed to avoid that.

Nice graphics! They would have been even better with some animations  I encountered some (performance?) issues after a while: the screen started stuttering when moving down. Overall, it's an enjoyable game!

@oune yes, I didn't figure out how to delete things behind the player so eventually the game starts to fill up with segments. Definitely something I need to fix.

@fenderbate thank you. I agree, it needs a lot of work. I hope I'm up to the challenge.

@nisovin Thank you, the art was my favorite part. I was looking for a good sound for running into fish but ran out of time. Still haven't found one I like yet.

The graphics are really nice, loved them, i could see this game being on the phone, add some sound fx for when you are collecting the coin and for when you are taking damage as there is no feedback and maybe make the submarine change direction, other than that a fun little game, good job!

Very nice graphics. All the animations were really smooth and the fish looked good and everything fit together.

Movement was a bit strange as the ship would leap long forward if I just tapped a directional button. Because of that I once got stuck and got eaten because of that.
It wasn't also clear to me which fish should I evade and died once touching a big colourful fish that didn't look dangerous to me. I would had liked an end screen where my score was shown, now I didn't have time to see how much I scored.

The background bubbling sound is actually calming. The collision sound is ok, but maybe could have had variants as it became jarring before long. There could have been more different sounds for example when collecting coins.

p.s. I found your game because you had liked our Ludum Post in instagram :)

Excellent art, it is refined and consistent and it looks great. The game was pretty easy; I mostly just from coin to coin and only had to actually take any kind of evasive action once or twice. That said, I did notice that once I did touch an enemy it zapped all my health away almost immediately - a brief period of invulnerability after getting hit would help that feel better. Great candidate for a mobile game, which I see you might have already thought of based on the aspect ratio.

@bmacintosh yep, the aspect ratio is android sized. Good eye. The invulnerability frame will be the second thing I work on. Thanks for playing.

This was a charming game with nice graphics. The gameplay was a touch simple, and perhaps too easy. Maybe the player should constantly move downward, but that may not be what you're going for.

04. May 2021 · 07:27 UTC
I think the art style is really nice, but I feel the gameplay could be improved on. For instance, I feel there should be a better way for the player to know if an enemy is an enemy, or make it less easy for the player to die so quickly. Maybe make it so the player doesn't die instantly if they get stuck with an enemy, as this occurred to me while playing. Other than that I really enjoyed the Submarine's design as well as everything else. Sound was good. Overall a great entry and has the potential to be a fun little mobile game! Good Work!

I like the bubbles in your game (compared to mine), lol. The art is good, the gameplay needs some work. There's not much feedback when you get hit... I didn't at first notice that regular fish also hurt you (and not just the bad looking one) - I just noticed all of a sudden my health was down. You have a nice thump when hitting the scenery, so an audio or visual cue when you get hit by fish may be an easy fix for that.
