THIS IS REALLY POLISHED.

The graphics and sounds are amazing. The only complaint I have is I tried to attack the enemies on instinct, probably would be a good idea to convey that to the player, but other than that this game was GREAT.

Super cool ! Le concept est simple mais le jeu est tellement bien polish ! Les graph sont super cute, super musique et sons et rien à redire sur le game feel. Mais c'est duuuur ! :D La lave chez le marchand c'est super fourbe !

This is a really polished and beautifully looking game! I agree with the other commenters that somehow letting players know they can't attack would be a good idea. Otherwise, everything seems top notch!

This is very fun and polished! I liked it a lot! The pixel art is very well done as is the music and sounds. I also like how you have to block off the enemies. I couldn't get past the last level (I think) with monkeys in cages because there were just WAY too many lizards. But maybe it was my fault for spawning them by breaking all the blocks. Overall a very fun game!

@kypello IT WAS YOUR HUBRIS, YOUR ARROGANCE! Ahah yeah the last level can be pretty darn hard, especially when you want those sweet sweet gems. But also since there is a good amount of random it can go south quickly.
We're thinking of changing the shovel in a potential post jam version : lizardmen could fall into the holes and then the hole would disappear, effectively letting you "kill" enemies.

Love the gameboy aesthetic and the audio. As others have said the polish on this game is super impressive. Normally I try to offer some point of improvement in my comments but I don't have one here. You had a pretty clear design objective and you accomplished it extremely well. Nice job!

The graphics and music is absolutely amazing. All the things in the game are at the level of a polished published game and I would love to se the game even more fleshed out, or other games with this artstyle.

Great graphics, the concept is simple yet very solid. I love the overall presentation of the game, and it plays very nicely. Super polished and very, very well made.

Woo I saved all the monkeys, that last level really packs a punch! What a wonderfully polished game, absolutely stunning GBC visuals/Links Awakening DX/Oracle seasons/ages influence mixed with some crypt of the necrodancer/cadence of hyrule influence makes for an extremely charming game filled with monkey magic ;D.

Great job and would love to see this fleshed out into a more zelda/frog bell game, but even as a more rogue-likely randomly generated experience it'd be bound to be a hit!

Oh man!! What a polished title! This is how retro games should be made. Starts off a little slow, but by the last stage I found myself madly smashing through rocks with a dozen lizardmen tailing me. Super super impressed by the visuals and color palette. The music slaps, the game is just the right length, such a nice little package.

A couple things: the lizardmen sound effect sounds kind of out of place, at first I wasn't sure where it was coming from. From the beginning I got super strong Link to the Past vibes, all the way down to the mining animation. Because of this I assumed I could attack enemies, and thought it was buggy that I couldn't. But once I understood that I really enjoyed the game loop. Can't wait to see where you go with this game in the future! A+

This is such a cozy feeling game. The art, music and mechanics are all so charming and well put together. A real joy to play. If I had one critique of the game its that maybe the hitbox for magma could be a little more generous, as there were a few times I barely clipped it thinking I hadn't and ended up taking damage for it. Such a polished entry, amazing job to all involved, one of my favorites so far.

Nice art and animations. Really caught my eye! I love the style. The music is nice, but the lizard growl is a little off. Kinda reminds me of Minecraft zombies. Whatever, not a deal breaker.

I wish I could attack the lizard guys, using the shovels as defense seems like a neat mechanic, but it can break and leaves me defenseless. I couldn't find the exit on LV2 and gave up after a few tries of lizard guys and lava pools randomly spawning to kill me.

Overall good job everyone!

I really like the game. It is some how difficult. I've managed to die one time until I've got to the deep of saving friends.

The only problem I see, that after you learn how to run away from lizards you don't need shovels anymore.

Great entry! I loved the game, a bit difficult sometimes, but super cool and well balanced overall. I softlocked myself one time because I made a hole in a narrow path and the shovel broke :)

The art is beautiful, the audio is just fine and the gameplay is fun. Good job.

I have nothing to complain about this game, it reminds me of Legend of Zelda game on NES and GBA, from the sound and art, gave me qutie a bit of nolstalgia also. Impressive how much you did in this jam entry. I just think it will be a bit more fun if you can fight the reptiles with your pickaxe (mine didn't do a dent on them xD)

@justcamh Thanks a lot for streaming the game, happy you liked it! The lava block you had at the end of your run wasn't a softlock, though it was veeery unlucky ahah. You could have taken a small detour just south of where you were to reach the same point on the other side of the lava.
There are possible softlocks though (you can block yourself with the shovel (but we intend to tweak how the shovel works) or potentially you could be extremely unlucky and spawn several connected lava blocks (you can use your I-frames from being hit to cross through but yeah that's at least one HP lost).
Again thanks a lot for playing, streaming and liking the game! It was super fun watching you play!

Awesome work! I really enjoyed all the polish that went into it. Very simple, but you demonstrated an absolute mastery of the scope of your game; it's so tight! Nice difficulty curves, nice, simple mechanics that you exploited really well, cute animations, good use of signs and feedbacks, good use of color! I really like the three circles of light around the character, and how they shifted to emphasize the direction Bubbles was facing. The end credit, and the whole experience, were super cute! You really had a good, coherent, well directed aesthetic. Great gamefeel, great use of everything. I loved that you can't fight the lizardmen, and I loved the way you teach that Bubbles has to trap them by showing one trapped in the middle of shovel holes! Outstanding job overall, thank you for the game, do keep it up!

This was really good. The music, the graphics, I mean, everything was perfectly executed and coherent.
I even managed to save all the monkeys even if I'm not a fan of the genre - *meaning i'm bad at this* -. I was just on board with Bubbles, running from ennemies is totally what I would do.
Great job!

This is a very good game, it's among the the best this jam.

One problem though, my monke has found the glitch of eternal life and is now on the loose.

![philosophers stone.png](///raw/b2/z/41b95.png)

I think I got hit (or died) during the shop transition and became the immortal monke (nothing did damage to me).

Jokes aside, congrats on the game, its pretty good.

First, very nice game, played through all of it, I freed the monkeys and had a great experience doing so.

The visuals are very good although it is sometimes hard to make the difference between what is a "minable" wall and what is the edge of the level, but that’s a minor complaint.

The soundtrack is awesome, loved it and the sound design with all the monkey noises, very sweet addition. I’m not sure if it was intended but there’s quite a bit of "crackling" in the music which I’m not really a fan of.

I had some minor sprite overlap at some point :

![2021-04-30 09_29_54-Monkey Quest by My Sweet Whomp.png](///raw/963/81/z/41bc9.png)

And one time I could not buy a heart upgrade and did not know the reason why (I had enough money) :

![2021-04-30 09_33_50-Monkey Quest by My Sweet Whomp.png](///raw/963/81/z/41bcb.png)

The one thing I was not a fan of was the spawning of monsters when you mine.

I get the reason, it’s to make you take a decision, should I mine to get money or should I avoid it to not die.

But the thing is, you can always have enough money to buy the upgrades by mining the bare minimum of blocks so it’s not the best implementation in my opinion.

Overall though, I had a very fun time, the game is quite long for a jam so congrats, you made a very cool game, keep it up !

@cassio-eduardo Thanks for playing, glad you liked it!
> I think I got hit (or died) during the shop transition and became the immortal monke (nothing did damage to me).

That's interesting, I'll look into it. There's probably an issue with the FSM not resetting properly when switching between levels.

@maksime I'm happy you liked our game.
> And one time I could not buy a heart upgrade and did not know the reason why

Maybe you already had the maximum number of hearts (6)?
> you can always have enough money to buy the upgrades by mining the bare minimum of blocks

Yeah, I think we need to tweak item prices a bit more.
Also, the crackling sound is apparently an issue that can sometimes happen with WebGL :sob:

Really, really good game ! The art is gorgeous, the soundtrack is amazing, that's a lot of refinement for a 72h challenge !

Just one thing : the random monster/lava/satanic thingy that appears when you mine is very frustrating. I can understand the reasoning behind that : you want to create a "risk/reward" (I either get money or get rekt), but in this case, don't make some wall mandatory to destroy in order to advance. That should be a choice, not a constraint ^^'. I would definitively have prefered fixed spawns for enemies, and walls are only here to limit your options (or create some).

Also, not having a "real" counterplay to enemies was interesting, but I felt really helpless, and spent a lot of time baiting/backtracking. I would have prefered a way to definitively "kill" an enemy (like digging under its feet, and he falls down).

But these are just details, the game is REALLY good, I loved it anyway =) ! Good job !

Simply brilliant work, and I've got to tell you - I'll never get that shopkeeper music out of my head (and did the main? theme have a little goldeneye moment in it!?).

I had a minor immortality glitch (haha) similar I suppose to what was mentioned above? Generally though, this is brilliant and wonderfully polished. I'd just want more and more of it. It could easily be coopted into a large adventure.

The core loop is solid, the visuals are gorgeous, wonderful work!

Cool submission! Well polished. Art was pretty good and that monkey was really cute. Music was compatible with the game with those monkey sounds. Level design was also really nice.

But it wasn't happy ending for me,

![sadmonke.PNG](///raw/715/43/z/41dac.png)

died before the last monkey.
It would be great if there was a checkpoint.

I also could see out of the map. ![seeout.PNG](///raw/715/43/z/41daf.png) There could be tiles as well.

Since it was under a cave, it was pretty cool idea not to see the entire map. Instead, being dark and having a limited eyesight had added a lot to the game and made exploration even more fun! Great work!

That's the cutest game I've seen so far. Great mechanics and idea! I wish there was a checkpoint of sorts as I was so close to freeing all the monkeys. That and possibly a balance of how many enemies can be in a level and that's a releasable game for sure!

Really cute game! Quite fun to play as well. I just have a couple of minor issues.

- It's annoying that I buy items by walking on them. Wish I had to press a button to actually purchase and spend my money.
- There should be a checkpoint at the start of each level so I don't have to restart the whole game when I die. That's just frustrating and doesn't bring anything positive to the game.
- Game is generally too difficult for new players. Remember that while you've had 72 hours to practice, we just get 5-10 minutes.
- This might be controversial, but I don't think you need any enemies at the first level. It's a good intro to let the player peacefully mine stuff for half a minute before fighting enemies.

This game felt really polished and juicy! I loved the art, and I also loved the sound design - The cadence of the "clink, clink, smash!" as you broke through a block was extremely satisfying, especially when followed up by the gem-collection sound.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to fight back against the enemies as I unearthed them - It seemed like my pickaxe didn't do anything to them, so I ended up just trying to lure them into different parts of the map than I wanted to explore, which was a little bit tedious. It felt like there was something that I was missing.

I agree with other commenters that starting from scratch on death felt like a really harsh penalty - I wanted to keep playing and exploring new content, but restarting every time I died meant that I only ended up playing the first two areas again and again, instead of experiencing the rest of the game in full :(

That said, the moment-to-moment gameplay still felt really satisfying because of all the polish put into the game - Great job! :)

This game looks so cute and is so polished! The lava is a bit frustrating as it killed me when i thought it couldn't touch me. The lizards are quite fast but thanks to their slow attacks you can still dodge them. I would have loved to have an item that would allow me to kill them tho!

It was a nice little experience.
It got a bit too difficult for me, but overall the idea fit perfectly with the theme.
The graphics were excellent and the audio was on point.
The only thing that bothered me was the collision with lava but nothing that can't be fixed if this was a full game.
Good job overall!

Very polished game but very difficult to escape the lizards. After a complete upgrade of the pickaxe, some kind of weapon against them would be useful (besides digging holes).

Thank you for letting me play your game on stream! [Here's that clip.](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1009307903?t=1h16m37s) Just to reiterate, I loved the cuteness of all the character sprites and the (Ape Escape and Donkey Kong nostalgia) monkey-percussion music along with the rest of the sounds. More indication of progress through the game would be a good way to motivate people to keep going--maybe picking up more or different items? having some metaphorical breadcrumbs dropped by your monkey friends? (red boots? )

But this is a really nice jam game to hang out in. Especially while psyching yourself up to go sprint past the stabby lizards you unearthed.

The level of polish here is astounding! Really fun game, pretty art, nice audio design, and so much depth for a jam game! Very impressed, great work!

Nice game with excellent art and sound. Separately, I would like to highlight the attention to the small details. The gameplay is also good but is a bit slow and repetitive personally for me.

so cute!! great art, lots of nice music. I thought the deaths were a bit too punishing (but I came back and beat the game so maybe not!) Really great work!

Amazing graphics and enjoyable gameplay. The game could really do with some checkpoints. Superb entry.

Nice game! I think it's in order some explanation at the beginning that you can't fight enemies and have to find ways to avoid/trap them. Also, since that's the case, I'm not sure the current spawning system is the better option (since you can run into an enemy at random, and in some cases there's pretty much nothing you can do. Also, on the idea of trapping them, perhaps they should move a little slower (and the shovel having a limited number of uses means you can't just go mindlessly digging, so you have to plan it carefully). The music and effects are nice (the monkey scream is a little too loud maybe), and the art is gorgeous! Overall, cool idea, and really well polished!

Superbly cute! Graphics are very nice and just adorable! Music is also very fitting. Everything is just so energetic :).

Controls work nice and feel good. Had zero reasons to complain.

I loved that Bubbles cannot fight and has to use his wits and the trusty shovel. Trapping the enemies was not so easy, especially those sneaky ones that jumped at you from under the rocks. But it was satisfying to pull off.

I was quite surprised the first time I bought an item by simply walking onto it. I thought I've been robbed

My only minor complaint was that when I was walking between the two lava tiles on the last level, it seemed to me like the upper one was hitting me when it really shouldn't.

Anyway, awesome game!

Well ... I don't know much to say. I just loved it! I often felt that I was playing an official GameBoy game. I hope for more, really!

Congratulations to the whole team.

P.S. I was curious to know if there is something hidden here.

Great graphics! I love that the torch / light circle moves a bit, it's a great touch to make it more alive.

The game plays very well, but is perhaps a bit slow in the beginning. But it's a really solid base and could easily be expanded from this.

The biggest flaw was lava under dirt. I'm not some game design guru or anything, but man- I lost my run with one monkey left to rescue, with one heart remaining, real nervous stuff- because of a lava tile under a piece of dirt. Furthermore, losing the game means restarting from level one, and I just didn't have the fortitude the play the whole game a second time.

The artwork was delightful, and I enjoyed the music too! The shop was a really cool idea, and I love the sound effects for everything. How did you make such a nice chime sound for the pickaxe swinging and the crystals? It's fantastic! Great work.

This game is just awesome! Nice mechanics, super good music and sound effects. The art is incredibly good. I don't know what to say.. maybe instead of the starting screen with all the commands, it would be better to have some sort of tutorial as you go through the first few levels. Apart from that, super solid execution

Amazing graphics and sound. Gameplay remembers me Stardew Valley. Maybe to no put lava in the store, that place should be quiet and safe. I didnt play a lot because the game bugged for me and I had to restart, but is a really nice game, congrats for the work!

Outstanding! Very fun, cute, and cozy. The environmental tutorials are really well thought out and the power curve is surprisingly good for a jam! Gorgeous graphics, the music was perfect, and the digging mechanic really afforded some new ways of thinking about combat. Fantastic across the board!

Simple, but very polished! Really like the inclusion of the shops between floors, could easily see it being fleshed out more for a full game. The aesthetic was very nice and the music/sfx fit well. Well done!
