I think your take on theme is brilliant! The gameplay mechanic is interesting.
Also love the artstyle and the music! :v:
My only advice would be the adjust the adjust the difficulty curve for the game.
It would be much better for the players to have an easier start to get the hang of it.
Then you could ramp it up to become more challenging!
Nevertheless, I got hooked into it instantly and found myself playing 10-15 rounds. Brilliant game! :crossed_swords:
BUT its still fun
Innovation on 5+
Game for masochists ahaha
Great job!
Also, I did some runs (and died pretty fast on the majority :grimacing: ), and one of the run crashed, I had to close the game using the task manager. I don't know what caused it, it happened only once, so it must be just me that is a bit unlucky :D
I've got to say that I found the controls a bit weird, the 3 "powers" (Dash, stab and powerup) are too far apart from each other on the keyboard. My suggestion would be to use Q, W, and E or Z, X and C, and keep movement on the arrow keys.
Good game!
The mechanic is original but sometimes the monsters can one shot you with multiple -20 appeared at the same time. I still have fun though, good job !
The concept of the game is a bit unsettling (I'm glad that it's pixel art), but it works well. It creates an interesting risk/reward balance. It's also fun (and dangerously tempting) do explore the different power-up available! Nice job!
I had fun playing it. Great game! Congrats!
"A" does not work as a left movement key, so you are stuck with moving with arrow keys. And the setup Space + Enter + arrow keys is not comfortable. You probably have it setup for AZERTY and did not consider adding QWERTY keyboard setup as an alternative binding.
Apart from that hurdle, the controls worked fine and the game played okay. Did not encounter any bugs or problems, and got to the bottom on my third try.
Graphics could use some improvements - more engaging colors, some more style cohesion. I liked the music and sfx - felt unique and fitting.
Jeu sympathique néanmoins, peut-être un peu longuet, mais bien joué, le principe est très intéressant !
i got fairly far... i think... but honestly i have no way of knowing just how far close I got to the end of your game. i think some kind of feedback or indication system for progress would be good. or maybe i just missed it?
Voice acting is 10/10
Had a lot of fun spraying my guts over goblins until they died, I gotta say. The voiceover on the main menu is dope! And the voice acting in the game is cool too, its a nice touch :)
One question is, if your blood kills goblins... why do the goblins attack you with swords? Seems like a quick way of getting covered in blood!
@mrpouletbzh Hey happy you enjoyed the game ! The character is indeed a bit too slow when you stab yourself, I will increase it but I think it's important that you are really slow down when you decide to stab yourself. Thank you for the reply, I will change that !
@asdehielo @fabula-rasa @steffy Indeed controls aren't the best decision I made, I will modify that, it will be easier to understand this way. Thanks for the reply ! Happy you had a great time !
@fabula-rasa Concerning graphics it will be improved, I just didn't had time during the Jam to do something fantastic, I do like the character sprite but goblins will turn into an other monster I think.
@laurent Thanks for the comment and happy you had fun ! I like the fact that you have to discover by yourself the PowerUps but I will work on a new tutorial, this way you can discover them freely before playing the real game.
@sakura-magika Hi ! I'm so happy you liked the game ! This is a great idea, I will add the meters progression into the HUD (maybe inside the elevator, could be great). Thanks for the reply !
@joedev It's... it's a great question, it seems pretty dumb... Maybe goblins aren't that smart and they prefer to kill you, even if they die too... I guess ! Actually that's not a bad question, that can be fun if when you die you bleed and the goblins nearby die because of that ! Happy you enjoyed the game !
@itooh Super heureux d'avoir ton retour, il compte beaucoup depuis la dernière Jam. Merci de ton retour, content d'entendre ton avis et de savoir que tu as passé un bon moment !
Et ce voice acting 10/10  vraiment fun.
Also, unsure if it was a _bug_ or just bad luck - I had a case where I attacked and was attacked at the same time, and had my entire health bar drained (Seemed the attack got stacked or something? Saw a lot of damage strings)
But the take on the theme is really cool! The controls are weird tho. Why enter to stab? And then E to power up? And space did what again? It feels like I need 6 hands to play lol. Also, A and D keys didn't really work? I could walk right but not left? Other than that though, it's really surprisingly satisfying to kill the enemies with your blood like that, and I like how you slow down for a bit when you stab yourself. Good job!
Nice idea.
To the end it get a little repetitive, but overall nice game!
I didn't understand the powerups, and I also didn't understand what the glowing spots on the enemies represented.
Great work for the jam!
Some remark: window is pretty small on 4K display. Expectation: game has fullscreen mode.
Nice entry!
Good job.
If they are something to improve, it could be the balance of the game :) I found it easy. Because I just stack power up to red sword and after that I kill every thing quickly.
But it's a good entry, happy to test it.
When I first started I thought it was just a nova type attack that's reskinned, but there's a few things you did well to sell it as a unique mechanic: The sprite animation of him stabbing, the slowdown after you use it and the limping, the damage it deals to yourself, The sounds (stabbing sound and the guy getting hurt), and spewing more blood when you are lower health
The last one is subtle, but I think it's a great design choice that adds more to your risk/reward system and fits well with the mechanic. It also helps out new players and could create more tension in fights where you are fighting strong enemies for a long time with low health (if there were some stronger guys)
Here some suggestions if you are gonna keep working on it:
-more enemy variety! The floating dudes that shoot lasers are awesome!
-goblins should telegraph their attacks! The floating dudes telegraph really well!
-More Challenge (a little easier for jams is usually better though xD)! I think this ties in with the other two things
-Communicate what the powerups do. I don't mind having to discover what they do, but their effect should be clear after using it. The red one is clear because its visually represented, the green one just changes your health bar in a single frame and it's easy to miss when your focus is on the enemies, and the yellow one I didn't even notice the particles from it the first few times
-Keep the player hurt sounds without words. Even though you have multiple sounds for getting hurt, the one with words really stands out among the grunts. I think words could work well when the player uses a powerup or dies though!
You are on the right track to a really cool game with a bit more polish, keep it up!
