BATTLE THROUGH 5 LEVELS AND A BOSSFIGHT IN

                                    -- > RETRIEVE LEGS --

RETRIEVE LEGS is, put simply, a game about retrieving your legs after they have been stolen from you.

Ludum Dare 48 has been hectic, in fact, as I write this I am installing a different version of unity in order to fix a WebGL compile bug involving audio. Last minute changes are abound!

However! The game (in our opinion) is fun. Which is pretty cool.

Thank you for playing, we hope you enjoyed, and we hope you rate us well!

Good work, I like the way you swing your weapon to attack or shoot to move. I like the intro sequence too.

I really like the idea that you need to shoot to move :)

Great entry! You've got a unique mechanic, great art, and a pretty big amount of content! Nice job!

My only thoughts are:
- The darkness doesn't really seem to fit the gameplay here. It just made the walls harder to see, and since you were forced to move in these big impulses, you just run against the wall a bunch.
- I really liked the overall shoot behind you to move and then swing forward to hit with melee. That said, having enemies with contact damage made it pretty difficult to not take damage when killing enemies. The spiders seemed nearly impossible to avoid damage (though obviously you regen). I think some knockback/stun effect to the weapon would have been nice.

Great job!

The light effect looks good, but I feel like it makes the overall game a bit too dark, not sure if it was necessary.

Moving around, especially in fights, is not easy. But it makes the melee kill heals mechanic more interesting I guess. Once you get the hang of it, blasting into group of enemies and spinning around is a lot of fun tho.

I loved the fights in the big room before the boss. Couldn't beat the boss tho, the fight was confusing and I couldn't understand how to damage him.

Very good game, I hope I doesn't sounds like too harsh on criticism, but the quality of the game is so good that I feel like sharing the detailed thought process I had while playing is the best way I can hopefully help. :)

Thanks for the feedback, we noticed that the game looks considerably darker on certain displays, but didn't find time to tweak the lights to account for this. We will adjust the lighting to make it a bit brighter in our post-jam revision. You are also right about damaging the boss being confusing, because you needed to use a mechanic that we never introduced prior to the fight, which was to kite the boss's fist around when it chases you to hit him in the face. Unfortunately, the boss's hit box is a little small, which made it even harder to figure this out intuitively.

Thank you! I've mentioned the issue about the darkness in my reply to JedeMac, and I agree that the spiders are a damn pest!

- Art (especially the intro) was great.
- Lighting and particle effects were really nice, added to the atmosphere.
- Movement was a bit fiddly and attacking took a while to get used to, but it felt pretty good once I got the hang of it.
- Great enemy variety.
- Sound effects were punchy and well varied.
- Didn't realize until the 3rd level that the pick was shooting bullets instead of a harmless particle effect.
- Music was cool, liked the 2nd spookier track and the boss music a lot.
- The boss was really hard to damage, tried kiting the fists towards his face but could never get a hit in.

This one's a lot of fun! The concept's super unique and I feel with a bit more polish it could make a great full game.
I think my main issues were with attacking though, it felt like a lot of the time my attacks weren't actually landing when it looked as though they should've. Also, and I admit it might already be in there and I'm just missing it, but maybe having your attacks deal increased damage based on your character's momentum would be fun? Dealing extra damage by flinging yourself forward and hitting an enemy on your way past would add just a little more depth to an already super interesting combat system!

Good idea!

I had some difficulty to combat enemies, because my shot is my movement too (and meelee attack is not so good)
Anyway nice work!

It took a few tries to get the hang of the movement, but by the end I was a spinning death pinball and having a lot of fun. I'm really impressed with the different types of enemies and their distinct combat AIs too, and that intro is fantastic! Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to beat/damage the last boss - but big thanks for generous checkpoints that let me kept trying a half-dozen times.

Great work!

Very good and fun game! The only issue I had were with golems and damaging enemies and dying before the waves were over in the last section. Couldn't find the optimal strategy to attack golems while staying besides tanking their hits. Otherwise the graphics were very nice and the mechanics were done very well!

Interesting movement mechanic. The pickaxe damage could do with a little refinement, but overall felt quite fun to play. Great art and music :)

Nice mechanics! It took me a while to control them but it was fun. I liked the graphics too, they are well polished. The music is quite nice too though a bit repetitive. Very good job overall!

The movement mechanic is interesting but I don't think it meshed well with other things in your game. Specifically the combat was a lot more difficult because of the movement. And then the lighting on top of that makes it even harder.

Move via shooting was surprising at first, but you lost your legs! Makes sense.

Took a little getting used to but afterwards, moving around made a bit more sense. It was a little difficult to move and then swing the weapon. And sometimes, hard to maneuver around to get to the right spot in order to break walls.

Overall, good job!

Very cool game with impressive amount of content! The jagged camera movement each time you shoot was a little jarring though.

Took me a while to work out the melee but it was an interesting idea that worked well.
Fun game but combat is hard in tight spaces. I think less bounce from the walls would help. Maybe a short roll on the right mouse. The spiders need a death animation and some indication that your shots connect. Cool game overall.

I missed the link between losing legs and getting the pickshot to move but actually it makes sense and it is also a funny mechanic: quite difficult to handle properly but challenging. Audio fx is borderline between ewww and gorish but quite appropriate
Couldn't manage to finish it because I lacked time but chances are that I'retry later.
Good job anyway!

Congratulations on the game, I felt the characters were very prominent not belonging to the same environment, a suggestion maybe lowering the contrast a little better, include some objects along the way to collect, big hug my friend, and I await your feedback on my game.

Really fun to play, although even if the shooting movement made sense with the "no legs" premise, it still felt like it would be more fun if we could move with WASD. Also it would be nice if enemies showed damage some way besides making the noise when hit. Congrats!!

Wow, even has an intro, impressive.

Very interesting mechanic, if a bit hard to control. Impact indications are a nice touch. Would have helped the pick feel heavier if enemies got knocked back.

Felt like there was never a reason not to have the weapon extended, so ended up playing the whole game while holding down right click. Pretty sure that was not intended experience. Also felt a bit too dark to see but maybe because i was playing during the day.

Solid atmosphere created by good art, nice music and sounds. Blood trails from missing legs is a good reminder why I have to go to so much trouble just to move.
