Secret Floors by Quetzakol

[raw]
made by Quetzakol for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

You're leaving work, but your elevator skips the ground floor and leads you deeper, to the Secret Floors. A strange man contacts you on your phone to help you. Will you manage to reach the deepest level and escape?

The game consists mainly of a short story driven by dialogues on the phone. To reach deeper level, you have to find the right codes to use on the elevator's panel, using the hints given to you by phone.

I mainly focused on the mood, music and graphics rather than gameplay. But I hope the game makes sense and you will enjoy it  You can download the soluce if you're really stuck.

I like the humour and the graphics. The story caricatural of the society, work etc...And how you take the theme to make a point and click with enigma only with a phone and an elevator. And i like the button to shutdown the music (she's good but not very long time). Very good and original game !

I got stumped pretty quickly. I liked what I saw, though! The main character looked like a besuited Link...

What a refreshing little game! The writing is great and made me smile, and the riddles are pretty clever! Also enjoyed the visuals, the music loop is a bit short though. And as stated above, the response time is a bit long sometimes, just a tiny animated typing indicator could maybe already help with this.
It's definitely nice to play a jam game and wish it was longer. Doesn't happen too often, but is totally the case here. Great job overall!

I really liked the game, the text messages were pretty funny, I loved them. My one issue is that I had to peek in the solutions file (thank you for adding it to the downloads on itch.io, it's a really helpful thing for puzzle games) because the second code did not appear on the wifi code thing for me and I had no way of looking at floors above or below me.

Congratulation.

That's pog, i liked everything in the game from the art to the relaxing but still giving you some fear cause of the dark place down there i would say the second one the wi one tried to do it so hard, even went & counted the letters of the alphabet just to make sure, only to find out that it was wrong, good game over all :D

Thanks everyone for playing! I'm glad that the story was appreciated, most of it was writing under 2h and I was really not sure if it would make sense

@erkberg Thanks! I understand that the response time can be long. I lacked time to fine-tune that  Initially I wanted the player to have other things to do while waiting for the answers.

@ladycerberus Thanks a lot, I'm glad it made you happy  I'm also glad you liked the ukulele music, it's the first time I tried to have real music in a jam game ^^

@bastienre4 Damn, I think I implemented the code for that case in the last hour. I wasn't sure it would be worth it, now I'm really glad I did it

I really like how the character that gives the code/clues speaks. The game is quite original, and I really loved the last code! My only "complaint" is that for the second one I had to reload the game to see the room that I missed because I couldn't find a way to "scroll" the screen. Other than that, quite fun and good job!

Loved it... honestly I think this was my favorite entry - really unique. Loved all the puzzles (2nd one a little bit too hard I had to check) but everything was great. Loved the music, loved the graphics. Great stuff!

@ladybenko Thanks! For the second one, it's actually possible to go back up, using the initial floor number where the elevator stopped (-93). It's mentioned in one message on the phone in case the user has forgotten it, but I guess it could be clearer.

cute game i really enjoyed it. It reminds me of the stanley parables in a way, and if that doesn't give you pride idk what will.

Nice! I liked the puzzle solving, having to figure out where the next number is was fun (especially that last one). Also props for having the game recognize and react to you trying to use the last code first lol. Well done!

@cavedens There's a soluce that you can download in case you're blocked. It seems the second code is the hardest one for most people.

@techsec I didn't think of Stanley Parable when making this game, but now that you mention it, I realize I must have been inconsciously influenced by it! I definitely won't complain that I'm compared to it

Very nice storytelling and writing :) I liked the little joking hints towards Steins;Gate I think?
I also had my problems with the second code and was not smart enough to check my old messages for code of the upper floor. Good job anyways :)

I really did like this game! Loved the "hidden floor numbers" that you aren’t suppose to enter. The humour was superb.
The only thing which made me "mad" was, that the phone messages were the other way around, it would have made more sense to have the unknown person be red and you would answer in blue. Other than that - awesome game!

@kfischer-okarin I've never played Steins;Gate so if some things looked like a reference to it, it was a coincidence

@chuchugeralt Oooh you're right, I didn't even realize that until now. Sorry for the confusion

A really nice fun puzzle game, I enjoyed a lot. It's always tricky balancing the difficulty of puzzle games, especially in such a short time, but in my opinion you got it spot on, great job! For the second clue, judging from some other comments people work out they might need to go back up, but can't remember the floor number, or don't think to check the messages. I think making the starting floor 1 or 0, or even having a ground floor (G) button on the elevator panel to take you back up would be a more intuitive solution.

@psiv Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion! I think at some point I had considered making the starting floor -48 as a reference to LD48, which might have been easier to remember. I don't remember why I didn't do it in the end. But indeed a simpler starting floor would have been better.

I wasn't able to go back up to see the different wifi password, so I needed to look into the solutions.

I'm in love with this game!! The storytelling, the funny messages, the art, the nice and chill music with the ukulele, the creative and clever puzzles... I loved every single thing! I laughed so much reading the guy's messages and had a lot of fun figuring out what the correct numbers were, thank you so much for this entry, finding this game and being able to play it was like a great present

This is great. Deepest game I've come across so far, and one of my new favorites too.

I got stuck on the second puzzle like everyone else, checked the solution download (thanks) and then later slapped myself when I realized I had misread the bit about the special floor numbers working *at all times*, I also forgot the first floor was in my past messages too.
I take full blame for that, although if you ever continue this (something I'd love to see) it might be best moved up into the later (harder) levels
