Bouldaouf dash by shubart

[raw]
made by shubart for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

* a remake of a favorite game of mines *

Not really in the theme, but i miss ideas

Get enough diamonds to have the exit door opens.

Due to a ninja bug that appeared in the few final hours, there are only a few levels. I hope you will still enjoy nevertheless

Some assets are googled (and maybe copyrighted).

But the game engine is mine:

The source is split in two parts:

  • Ludum48: the game itself
  • chaos: a C++ library, the core of the engine

Otherwise i use the following C++ libraries

  • OpenGL (4.5)
  • Glew
  • Glfw
  • Irrklang
  • Boost with MPL
  • STL
  • FreeImage
  • Glm
  • Tinyxml2
  • Freetype
  • Nlohmann/json

And

  • TiledMap Editor

Sources are publicly given but due to some libraires dependencies, you probably won't be able to compile. Let me know if you want some informations relative to the code.

Brilliant Puzzle game, absolutely loved it. :smiling_imp:

- Great level design, slowly introducing new strategies, enemies and mechanics
- Well-balanced difficulty curve
- Cool, nostalgic aesthetics and sound effects

My only constructive feedback is that the left/right control feels a bit clunky at times.

Anyways, thanks for making this, I had a ton of fun playing it. Also, huge achievement to do this from scratch in c++ in just 72 hours.

Great entry! Your puzzle mechanics are good and the level add new rules one by one. The "skill" based levels are a bit less fun for me, like when you need to drop a boulder at the correct time to kill a bat. Last level I tried was the first with two bats, I could about figure out that I needed to do, but I didn't have much life less and didn't want to restart all the level for a third time. Anyway, great work!

The music and graphics remined me of an 80's arcade style game. I liked the different puzzles that you added, they showed off the new game mechanics in an easy to understand way for the player. I didn't understand what control did at first, but I got the hang of it more as I player. Well done!

reminded me a bit of the old-school 90s era puzzle games. was pretty tricky to get the timing right of dropping stones on some of the enemies, but not too bad.

Hey, a Boulderdash clone! Pretty neat, and props for writing your own engine, even if it's not really all that in-theme.

Good job ! Everything fits together and the puzzles are well designed although sometimes a bit hard due to how the players moves.

When I try to run the game, it's being blocked by my anti-virus software. I'm sure it's not actual malware, but I wanted to give you a heads-up anyway. This is also the reason why I sadly couldn't play.

@sigill I am so sorry for you. You are missing the best game of this Jam ! You may still set 5 stars in the different categories ;) Did you try to add an exception directory in the anti-virus settings ? (you may put several Ludum projects inside)

I liked the original game. I wonder what would be the extra levels if you hadn't that bug. There are a few non-tutorial levels and the existing ones are more about killing enemies than removing dirt and letting rocks fall in the right order.

You are one of the few developers who just use some libraries instead of a full-blown engine. That's cool.
