Fly Away by PSV Games Studio

[raw]
made by PSV Games Studio for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

In this game made exclusively for Ludum Dare, you will have to fly around the obstacles to survive.

The game uses my newest menu template (the same one that will be used in my Parkour 2.0 game), which contains:

Option of language in English and Portuguese, option of screen resolution and optimized visual.

Even though it was done in 72 hours, the result was very good, I learned a lot and managed to make one of the best games ever made by me.

I hope you like it and leave your comment to help me improve the game.

In this game I used several optimization techniques making the game super light and running on any PC!

In version 1.1.0 the game has a new scoring system and the bugs have also been resolved! Can you pass my record 2250 score?

What's new in version 1.2.0: * New scoring system (now you don't score points when you die) * Improved collision physics (now using the player mesh) * music volume option * Text bugs fixed * some extra polishing

What's new in version 1.3.0:

  • Improved collision physics system, now in this version the collision caps deform with animation, thus generating a very realistic and efficient collision!
  • some extra polishing

(:

Love the idea of skydiving into sinkholes! That's a super cool interpretation of the theme with a lot of potential.

There were a couple of times where I wasn't sure if I'd somehow died on the landing platform and just redoing the same thing, so maybe some more differentiation or at least a "you died" text or a "level x start" text on screen would help there.

I'd also expect skydiving controls to feel a little 'floatier' with some more acceleration but I understand that that makes movement a lot less precise so the game might not feel as good. I would have also appreciated slight strafe controls to finely tune my fit through some of the tighter gaps.

I think a cool addition to this game could be scoring more points based on how close you fly to things or how tight of a gap you flew through, since once I started challenging myself to shoot for the tiny holes I had a lot of fun with this. Great work!

Wow! Great idea and good controlling! Nice job! Try to make the character move more with latency, so you have some sence of controlling the character ;-)

I really like the idea! I feel like the player can be a bit hard to control at times. I also managed to spawn inside a wall after one of the levels but as soon as I bumped into one of the outside walls the level reset and everything was fine again! As others have mentioned, an indication when you cleared the level would also be nice!

The graphics were really nice, I really enjoyed the main characted and some of the other assets in the game (House, fences etc.). It was really enjoyable to play!

Not being able to move sideways gives the controls a unique feel where movement relies a lot on the mouse. I needed to crank my mouse sensitivity way up for this. Diving down at full speed feels great. Wish you could see a little bit more behind the player when looking down.

Also found that you can end up outside the sinkhole if you hold forward while respawning. Not a big deal but thought I'd mention.

Thank you very much to everyone for FeedBack, I am already making changes such as: FeedBack when passing the level, add a scoring system, and solve the bug of dying on the platform and leaving outside!
Today we will still have version 1.1!

Nice game. I like the art style and the menu music. I didn't find any bugs while playing it. The menu look very polished. It felt a little bit too easy.
Overall a really good game, good job!

This is a really clever game, I enjoyed it. I feel like you could be more forgiving with the collisions though, there were several times where I got a game over when there was clearly space between the character and wall -- I assume the collider is staying fixed and colliding while the character is animating? I was also expecting to control the acceleration, not the velocity, so it took a little bit of getting used to. Nice job overall!

Quite cool! Maybe it would be too easy to go straight down but going so fast forward makes it a little wonky at times. Dope art and gameplay was very fun!

I was surprised to see another game based on wingsuits and base jumping! Really good entry, I enjoyed the "Go faster" mechanic a lot, and got quite good at zipping around the levels. Awesome entry!

Good work. the mechanics to fly is good. Graphics was very great. Was also not too easy. As the platforms came towards faster and faster. What I was missing was the option to change the volume. I have to keep playing now though. :D My current record is too little. :D

Hello devs, I just noticed a bug in my game! The bug is in the maximum score, the accountant does not save the maximum score but any last score made. The problem was very simple, with a line of code already solved! I am now posting a new version with this bug fixed!
and I'm also adding a volume option :)

Hi,

Here is my playthrough of your game

https://youtu.be/IZvn4zpDR1k

I did not really understand how you get points. Especially since dying over and over just helps you increase your score. And I tried to figure out if you get more or less points by going faster but it did not seem to matter, so I am not sure. In the end I just died over and over until my score was over 3000

Really nice and fun little entry, I'm afraid I got stuck on level 7.

I did give it a good try but had enough after the second time the hitbox around the feet clipped the fences. Worth fixing it, as you want players to have the adrenaline rush of "wow that was close" not the disappointment of "that sucks my feet didn't even hit anything!"

Actually a nice game, the only thing i disliked was that, the player could get a lot of speed but can´t use this ability because the levels don´t allow it. Thats a bit unsatisfying

Its nice to hear you think your improving! Keep up that attitude itll get you far! As for the game i think it was well made! I think the grass texture is abit of a let down and could be much better. The only reason i mention this is because there is so much of it!

Other improvement would be to space the floor levels out abit more. As in currently the floors feel to close together. If you made the gap between bigger, it would allow you to utilise built up speed better and make it more exciting as you try to pull off crazier stuff!

Great stuff! Keep making new games and improving :video_game:

Good game with a steady difficulty curve and satisfying end. The music was good, but the epic soundtrack felt out of place… The gameplay has much more fun and light-heartedness to it! Nevertheless, the arcade-style feel, and the overall execution, made the game enjoyable! Good job!

I played the original submission version, for rating purposes :)

The controls feel fine and are responsive. Diving down is super cool! Colliders could use some work, as you can die from basically brushing your foot next to the ground tile, and that doesn't feel right.

I would also recommend changing the level transition to something more like a hole in the ground (a well maybe?). Diving head first into those floor tiles does not feel right either

Very nice concept and good execution.

Dear Pedro I will do it in Portuguese.

The gameplay was awesome. Controls felt nice and responsive, and the difficulty was very satisfying. The art and music were also great.

Great job! Also, i'm curious. What engine did you use to make the game?
