Age of Dwarves by DangerBlack

LD48 Cover.jpg

Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

We must away ere break of day

To seek the pale enchanted gold.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,

While hammers fell like ringing bells

In places deep, where dark things sleep,

In hollow halls beneath the fells.

Unable to assign an action to a dwarf. The UI goes into a disabled state after choosing an action and doesn't allow you to select a target.

@cryptomnesic If you have a build menu open you need to close it first before you can interact with another object, it's a bit unclear I know. If you click on the X at the bottom right to stop the action for that given dwarf it should close the menu too. If that is not the case then there is a bug we need to fix. Does that solve the issue?

An impressive amount of content for such a short amount of time, nice graphics and audio and a fun game, the only downside is the kind of clunky UI/dwarf controls.

This game feels very polished and it looks great. Graphics are nice, and the mood is good. Controls are clear and simple, and everything works well. I think the only issue I have would be the pace. It feels a little bit slow, but that's probably more my lack of patience rather than an actual flaw.

interesting design, could certainly be expanded into a more developed game

The graphics and music are both beautiful, the game also feels almost epic scale for a gamejam. The controls were a bit unintuitive though

There's a lot of content, and the graphics, music, and mood are good. However, I did experience some bugs/glitches (a dwarf glitching back and forth, and animations even when there wasn't anything assigned). Like was said above, it would be good if the pace of the game was increased.

Also, if "C" is pressed in the main menu the game breaks.

Love the Age of Empire feel, but I was not able to scroll anywhere via mousepad.
I also didn't quite understand why I suddenly spawned 15 dwarves within a minute without having to pay any kind of minerals (or anything else) for them.

Also one dwarf glitched when he was assigned to do a task which was already finished when he arrived.

Otherwise great idea! The music and the small idle animations are cool.

"Controls" can be more intuitive but I like the gameplay

Overall I think this is great. The controls are tricky and it wasn't obvious how to bring up the help menu initially. Once I had that figured out the game was lots of fun to play. Love the music!

I am agree with others. Game are fun but this control is a little bit confusing mainly at the beginning. But I had good time playing

My best entry so far. Game is very addictive. Controls seems buggy sometimes. Graphs are great. Great humor and mood also. Congrats.

love it really, solid. Not really much bad feedback to give here. Maybe one thing. I think its a bit anoying to click the dwarfs person by person. A selection of multible dwarfs would be nice. :-) I really enjoy it. Also the end was really cool.

@kevin-meissner You're the first person to mention the ending... I really appreciate that you played all the way through and that you liked it!

Congrats on your game, it was really cool! A lot of work in this jam, that's nice. The music and the art are good.
I have something to say about the controls. It's really hard, even with the two canvases on top-right of the screen, to understand which action I want to make. Like, I was at the final level to gather the big crystal with my ~20 soldiers, and it was a pain to click on each dwarve to send to attack an enemy. The enemy which dies something when the dwarve was going to attack it, and stopped his walk. Would be great, like SC2 or strategy game, to select multiple dwarves and send them once.

I really liked the game, and so sad to not fight the balrog at the end :sob: I wanted to send my army in his face😈!

I really liked the game, from what I tried on the game jam, probably the most. The atmosphere is at a high level. I liked everything. From mechanics and graphics, to music and general concept!)))))

Nice polished mechanics and art style, amazing job for 72 hours!

The music, art and overall gameplay is very impressive, but I think this kind of game needs a lot of quality-of-life UI features to make controlling more than half a dozen units bearable. That amount of UI polish probably isn't possible with the time available, so a better approach might have been to tweak things such that the player uses a smaller number of more powerful dwarves.

Great job making this game!
The graphics and the music are amazing!
The only slight annoyance that I had was that only one dwarf can be selected at a time (especially for combat).
Other than that, a cool entry!

Great art, deep gameplay (pun intended), fitting music and sounds.

I think it's a good game but maybe too ambitious for a game jam. The UI felt unresponsive at times and it needs a way to control multiple units at the same time like some other people said.

Nevertheless, great job for such little time!

Really great game overall, graphic are a bit weird but in a good way. The control are a bit clunky and feel unresponsive. But still a great game game for a jam, and I spend way more time playing this than i though I would =)

Man that was fun. Great storyline . Graphics and music are wounderful while playing. Controls of the dwarfs are easy to understand but i missed an easy way to just move them to another level. But that did not diminish the fun I had while playing. Well done!

Nicely polished game. I didn't run into any issues. I did have some difficulty selecting specific Dwarfs when they were overlapping. I would have like a way to "stage" dwarves to get them closer to the action. As a testament to how good the control was, when I was done playing I kept trying to scroll the web page using the right mouse button. :)

Nice theme, nice mood, nice music, very polished. Liked how new resources, buildings, and other elements were introduced progressively.

Pretty good, some bugs and the control scheme get in the way but the music and art compensate, not bad at all for a jam

Thanks you all to play our game!
Hope you all enjoy the ending and the experience! This year we try something new, LD is quite a challenge and I'm happy we did something cool outside our comfort zone!
Thanks you all, for the kind words and the useful feedback!

Extremely polished and well made! The music and the art really shine. Certainly something to be proud of, especially in such short time. Great job and good luck.
