DigAway by YouK

[raw]
made by YouK for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Our planet is under attack. Death beam attack regularly. In order to survive, you have to dig deeper and deeper, make good use of minerals and fuel in the earth's crust, expand the range of activity under the surface, make tools, until you make a transporter to escape the planet!

Player is an escaper with shovel and drill bits. You need to pay attention to your hunger and oxygen. When they fall below zero, you will lose HP. However, compared with losing HP, standing on the ground during death beam's attack will directly kill you. So you need to dig out the food, fuel and materials underground and rely on them to escape.

If you have ever played "oxygen not included" or something like that, maybe you will soon understand what the game is doing.

I didn't do UI adaptation, so I hope you can play in 1960 * 1084 resolution. Also, I didn't have time to do animation and sound effects. And... This is my first time to attend Ludum Dare. Please let me know there are any problem.

I updated a new version. Mainly added sound effects. You can download it from my itco.io page. Also added a awesome copyright-free music as BGM(Thank you a lot, Hupple san!):https://dova-s.jp/bgm/play12797.html.

There are many functions, and the degree of completion is really good. It's very similar to oxygen not included.

Very interesting game! Next time you can try to add some music

The description in the game is not as detailed as the introduction page

At the beginning the game was not easy to access (struggled with digging / drilling, I didn´t get that I have to put the curser on the block do destroy it), but after that, it got challenging in a good, suspensful way:

Oxigen and Food running out while the surface beams strike... but after all (Means: some tryouts), I managed to escape! :-)

Some sounds would have been great, but a very good entry! Thank you!

Well done. It fits the theme well. Cool that you have to build to prolong your survival. The flying was helpful. I liked the graphics :)

I thought the art style and premise of the game was good. It could have used some music and sound effects, but other than that the game is quite complete.

I forgot to say that you can also press ASDW to move!
And thank everyone for your playing and comments.
I think I'll finish a more complete version with sound effects. But it will takes some time.

Fun little game. Some animations would definitely help with the gameplay, since it was hard to tell the progress of breaking a tile.

Blurry backgrounds are not good for pixelart, try to make bg just less in contrast and it should be ok!

Very good submission! I liked that there was a very clear objective, made me try it a few more times until I made it. I missed better feedback for when you are low on oxygen / food, and I wish I could use the number keys to use the hotbar to eat while I dig.

Cool little game!
Having to constantly go deeper while watching over many other things a bit stressful. But that's what brings the fun! :)

Very interesting entry, took me a bit to fully understand it but as soon as I got the hang of it I enjoyed it. Especially the pixel art!

Nice idea, ad the beginning it's a bit hard to understand but after a bit it all makes sense. I liked the idea of the game and the art was nice. Overall is a nice entry and it's a good thing that I didn't find any bug :-)

I've read that is your first entry for Ludum Dare, good job. If you are interested here some personal thoughts about the game that maybe can be useful for the future:

- I know that you left out the "sound" cathegory but for the future remember that even some simple sounds makes the difference. Maybe a background music, an effect for digging, crafting and for the laser beam;
- I dind't felt threatened by the laser. It digs a bit slowly;
- I found too much food while digging and never felt the need to create a "food machine";
- I died once just because I wasn't paying attention to the oxygen countdown, maybe turning it red when there were just 10 seconds left could help (but this was my mistake).

Solid entry - looks pretty good, has quite a few systems working, probably a lot going on under the hood. Gameplay is engaging and interesting enough to motivate to beat the game.

Not sure why you have not enough reviews, maybe people just don't want to go through google drive. Though you should not only rate but also leave comments on other games - then not only yours will be promoted by the algorithm, but people who have seen your comment on their games might also check yours out. As far as I have noticed giving feedback is way more effective than blogposts.

This was a intense game, I had to replay it many times to win and it felt great when I finally did! I like the idea and that multitasking was required, the pace was great. I also like the art! Very nice, good job!

Good stuff, quite complex for only 24 hours, really needs a replay button, every time you die you exit out of the game lol.

Nice game, with good pixel art and easy to get into concept. Exiting the program every time the player dies is maybe a little harsh of a punishment, and being able to fly made the oxygen not really a problem, but the flow of the game was good
