I loved the variations in marine life, and all the details.
Very good game!
@twowolf @curryrice @lunardiscord @kryndir @timeloopedpowergamer @patdag @poddlesli @winged-souls @herbyvor Thanks a lot 💕 This game is in many ways very different to what we previously made, so I am very happy you like it. @thekingbarry and @dodidouda really did a fantastic job on the art!
Everything is well made and polished. The take on the theme is great. It's short and intense which is perfect for a game jam. I love all the little "pointless" interactions with the environment, it really makes or breaks this kind of game.
The story telling is on point!
I needed some time to figure out how to solve the first puzzle. maybe some hints there would be good.
Nice ending! :)
I had some trouble with the jellyfish, but hey: puzzles are not supposed to be cracked right away :smile:
The music was very fitting, I was amazed about how it all sounded. Later I saw that you used royalty-free samples, I respect how great it fits :smiley:
Only complaint I have: it is a bit short. But I think we can all agree that that is a compliment too :heart_eyes:
Question: what does "Selkö" stand for?
As for selkö, ***spoiler alert about the story*** it refers to the myth of the selkie, coming from the Nordic mythology. Those are women than can turn to seals.***end of spoilers***
It is less known than mermaid, but as much fascinating :). I recommend the very good cartoon "The Song of the sea" if you want to learn more about them !
Great submission!
Such a nice art style!
the ambiance is very cool
@wouter52 @tanner-shelton Thank you so much! Really encouraging to hear that you would have liked a longer version 🐟
@almighty-games Thanks a lot for playing it on stream! It was really interesting to see you play. The games does need some work on sound options, hints and more visual cues to complement the audio ones. Thanks again 🦈
@luc-creationallabs @kaappis Thanks a lot for the feedback! We were indeed more focused on the mood and discovery feeling than gameplay this time. I feel like the game is mostly missing hints or logic in the puzzles, as you stated it is too much 'trial and error'. Thanks again 🐳
@civmaniac Thank you for the feedback! There are no alternate endings, that could be a great idea with more time! We decided to remove control of the character to focus the experience, but I understand that it might hinder the feeling of exploration. Thanks again 🐡
@kitty-mama it was lovely seeing you play on stream, thank you so much 💕 I am happy you enjoyed it! 🦦
@yorsh @michidk @fishmasterino @fae-exe @janetheodd @bqq @anton-savinov @dvd @nyanpierre Thanks it means a lot 💕🐋
I don't have any bad thing to say about it, almost as my lips had been SEALED
GET IT
(sorry)
loved how you could interact with your enviroment in such subtle ways. I loved watching how different fish would react to my light and such. and the end was cool. so i read in a comic here, there is something special depending on the order.
I imagine the name selko has to do with selkies? that makes sense given the end.
and @kp-cftsz same lol. thats what im doing rn.
Diving was one of our ideas too, but we went with shrinking.
Anyway, this was very relaxing single button adventure, I loved the atmosphere with music and art :)
@link270 thank you so much for playing it on stream! It was really lovely 🐟
@link270 @majadroid Thank you! It is really encouraging to hear that you would have liked a longer version 🐳
@finn-tr Thank you so much! I love your games 💕
@kapa6uh haha funniest comment so far! Glad you liked the gif and the game too 🐡
@aeternall one of our design pillar was "NOT scary", so I am really really happy to know that you could play it even with your fears! Your feedback means a lot 💕
@tieffeline oui je viens enfin de jouer au votre, c'est fantastique 🤿
@rongefilet @skelleroznik I seal what you did here 👀
@mmisspelling Thank you! I really liked your game too 🦀
@skelleroznik @goldenevolution You are definitely right, the games lacks some feedback or logic to some puzzles. Glad you enjoyed it anyway!
@kp-cftsz @starvingmilk glad you like it! Here is a direct link to the audio file (also available on the itch page) [Music link](https://megamusicmonkey.com/free-music-living-underwater-song-creative-commons/) 🎶
@starvingmilk sorry Pete is a bit afraid of depth, but he had a great time too, he told us about you. Yes, the name is referencing the selkies myth, great job on finding this out 🧜♀️
@notinatal Thank you so much for playing it on stream it was really great! 🐟
@pnkvrt @brokenmatcha @madr @stin @enderswype @a-flat-miner-studios @sebirit @borabee @flying-dog-fish @saltysa @tomssuli Thank you so much 💕🐋
The puzzles were easy, but satisfying to complete - you did a good job of making them well solvable without needing any explanation, which is definitely a boon to game design - it shows how clearly your environment shows what needs to be done to progress!
The final section of the game was positively beautiful, and who *doesn't* want to be a seal? The ideal ending to any game, in my opinion.
Overall, excellent atmosphere, and a very enjoyable, calming descent into the ocean! Great game jam, team! ☆☆☆☆☆
Would love to see this as a full game!
@ladycerberus Thank you, I loved your game 🍟 (no churros emoji sorry)
@autogibbon @mauriciomunky @sirred Thank you! The story and ending are based on an interpretation of the selkie myth. @thekingbarry was the one who came up with this great idea!
@briibot Thank you thank you thank you your comment is so heartwarming. You are a wonderful person for taking the time to write all of this 💕
@msipp27 If you want to try it again, try to charge the runes 😉 (and maybe play with sound on if you can, it might help a bit)
@euske I hope you mean that in a good way haha
@lemmy Oui c'était un phoque! L'histoire et la fin sont basés sur une interprétation du mythe des selkies, proposée par @thekingbarry! Sadly no, there are no alternate endings, because you know, 3 days!
@flopo @threeli @craplex @ariorick @villanelle @styrofoamwaffle @quite-good @felo07 @ar-borno Thank you so much everyone, I'll try all your games if I haven't already! 💕🐋
Absolutely stunning and well done! Congrats on such a beautiful game :)
Would like more, but at the same time, that might ruin the perfect little mood it has.
I really liked the interactive environment, the puffer fish especially.
Great job on it.
Had some problems with jelly fish, but solved this puzzle and reached the end of the game. I love the art (usually I don't like pixel art but this is a wonderful exception), music and the atmosphere of this deep dive. Great job!
And the whole game is awesome and beautiful !! :D I have nothing else to say than Bravo !!

In the end of the game I was like: "heeeey, that's why game called Selkö! Selkies is mythologic seal creatures from animation movie "song of the sea!" :sweat_smile:
Thanks a lot for that cool game, very beautiful

Then I got to the ordering puzzle and then I was like oh OK.....this is a real puzzle game. And so on. Basically every puzzle sort of surprised me because it was a different thing from before.
The ending TOTALLY caught me off guard and had no idea what was going on. I did read the comments later and now understand. Definitely not something I've seen in a game, much less even heard of. Nice little educational game :)
@natalia-dushkina This is so heartwarming. I am glad you finally found the solution for the jellyfish puzzle, it's not the most well designed one! I hope your son is well and will keep having such great taste 🤿
@thejookerful Thank you! It's funny how close our games are! Before choosing the puzzles, we also had the idea of taking pictures of fish and animals! I think you did a wonderful job designing it 🐠
@josephdevelops That is a very high praise coming from you! Thank you so much for playing it on stream your reactions were lovely 🐡
@niklas-zhaga Thank you! Not a lot of people know of this, I am glad you understood it!
@koalaura Thank you! Different endings would have been a wonderful idea given more time!
@justcamh Thank you so much for playing it on stream and the feedback! You found all the puzzles pretty quickly 🐟
@peachtreeoath Thank you for the feedback! I am really happy to hear that you liked the diversity, it was an improvement I really wanted to make over my previous games.
@videt @wobs @xeke-death @arancutter @etrealjunior @superfishboy @cem-adiloglu @antbrl @mharring @wolderado @maaxoom @ismael-rodriguez @taikinaaa @danmedeiros @youhou @chrissx2 @gregfagan @koningmathijs @ben-yazi Thank you so much for all your love 💕🐳
Graphics and audio are very good.
Thanks for the game, it's fun to play.
Here's my playthrough: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007430228?t=2h30m46s
Спасибо за игру! ^_^
Very happy that someone who does pixel art for a living enjoys the visuals of the game! Makes me want to try it more and actually learn the proper way to do it. Also props to @thekingbarry who worked on the graphics with me 🙂
The background music fit well with the game. The player has really the feeling to explore the deep sea. Animations are very nice also.
Great mystery puzzle game :clap:
I knew about the Ancient Astronauts theory, but that was first time I heard about the Sea Lions' Ancien Divers Theory. It definitely made me laugh when i saw the ruins at the end.
Here's some small nitpicks i could find :
- The "Dive" being a button on the title screen isn't obvious as I was clicking randomly on the screen at first. It would benefit from having a small animation while hovering it or something to indicate we can interact with it.
- Lacks an indication that we can left click to make the light flash for a second. I know the fishes blocking at the beginning are there to teach that, but first reflex is to point the light at them as you've got no way of knowing left click has an effect.
- The whale's sound saturates a bit.
You opt out of the audio category, but still, nice work with finding and using the sounds properly. They add a ton.
Good job guys!
A hint would be sometimes useful but it is still totally great ( i didnt knew first what to do with the lamp and the jellyfish).
@tommytheitguy Thank you so much and thank you for linking the replay! I agree with you, the game does need a little more indication, hints or feedback on puzzles, mostly the first one! The story is based on the Selkie myth, women turning into seals.
@xpoho thank you for the poetic writing! I am glad you enjoyed the story.
@henanboy Thank you, your comment and others make us swim in joy 🐡
@vladadamm Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! We absolutely agree on all your comments, and those were all on our list, but the priorities we decided meant they didn't make the cut! Too bad, maybe they could have been easy quick wins. For the whale sound, it seems to be a Google Chrome issue, I am glad at least it only seems to do that with this particular sound!
@zathnic Thanks a lot! We are not very good at designing puzzles yet, maybe once it becomes easier for us we will be able to make an experience with a bit more 🐟
@neowhoru Thank you! I agree the game does need a bit more hints or feedback. It's very hard to keep those subtle enough to not ruin the experience, we are very new yet to puzzle design and that is definitely an area of improvement!
@fargred @geo3d @mlho7 @duck-reaction @korfi @recursor @doctortm @attala Thank you so much it means a lot 💕🐋
Ps : J'adore la fin ^^
I allow myself to give you a little comment in French;) Really the game is incredibly beautiful! I was surprised by the whale x) The puzzles are really cool and the atmosphere is really successful! I had fun !
Ps: I love the end ^^
The game is polish.
The concept is interesting.
The story too.
Puzzle are cool.
It's poetic.
And the game end with humor... good job...
I really liked how different things reacted to light - the mushrooms, the puff fish, the surprise whale. It shows how much you can do with one well thought through mechanics.
Gameplay is simple but fells polished.
I loved all the little interactions with the fish, like them following the light or the puffer fish puffing up when you shone it on them. This game has a lot of character, you all did a great job! (Loved the ending too!)
@luketobin Thank you! We are not very experienced in puzzle design yet, and we wanted to focus the game on the mood, that's why we made them simple enough. Really happy to know you would have liked it longer 🐟
@waltsontanaka Thanks a lot! More animation or movement on the diver would indeed be great. Sound were indeed from sound banks, you can find links on the itch page if you like them!
@lorwon Merci beaucoup! Trop content que la baleine t'ai surpris, c'était une de nos premières idées et c'était pas évident de trouver la bonne mise en scène!
@fabula-rasa Thank you! Happy that you recognized the legend, not a lot of people do 🦦
@zlan100 @noteworthy Thank you so much your comments are really nice 🐳
@nsadie Thank you! So happy to know that your boys liked it!
@manan @zaibakk Thank you! We are not very experienced in puzzle design yet, and we wanted to focus the game on the mood, that's why we made them simple enough. It's quite hard to do interesting puzzle that do not become frustrating for some players. Maybe one day with more experience!
@pat-cleaver @florianduf @skiddings @cameron-paxton @hypp @jose-bonilla @ivan-nosov @spatia @thegamerasd
@deadmanjw @chrisap @kleinzach Thank you so much 💕🐋
I wish it could be longer, but the ending was unexpected and fits the mood of the game.
I can see this playing well on a tablet or phone since the light mechanic could be explore more. Also, many options for puzzles, even discovering puzzles from other civilizations.
