Welcome to Paperload: Deep Bass Edition!

Find out what mystical power source is hidden deep beneath the ground and remember; people have been talking about weird sounds coming from underground… They are not talking about the good kind.

Dig deeper and deeper but do not forget to refuel and upgrade your digger or buy some mining drones from the mining center (left most building).

Can you figure out what inspired this game?

Hint: Help the company to expand their mining operations by buying more mining drones. Maybe they'll find something interesting...

Thanks for playing! We hope you enjoyed the experience, please leave a rating if you have the time!

TUTORIAL:

  • Gather money by mining resources.
  • Use money to upgrade your digger and buy AI diggers to proceed the game story.

Controls:

Extra notes:

  • All textures are hand-drawn with pen on paper
  • The game has an ending.
  • Made by five people, only one of whom has ever done a jam before. Been great fun!

Definitely Motherload vibes on this one. Got pretty deep, but died from a stupid mistake. Thanks for the game :)

That is my version of Hell, how did you know?

Fun little game, I enjoyed the hand drawn style.
Best end credits I've seen in a game.

I had fun playing your game, the sprites are amazing!

I think I found a little bug btw: if you upgrade the fueltank, it will be full again. I don't complain ofcourse, that is a killer-deal! A full tank for 10 dollars :innocent:

my man! motherload is one of my all time favorites, but the minding drone thing was really interesting and the mining shaft look really good. graphics in general looked really good (how did you even do that 3d/2d effect?) I don't mind at all that the game play is a lot like ML, since we don't have enough games in that style anyways. the only feedback notes I made was:

* op that upgrading fuel gives you a full tank, makes refueling useless.
* shop options disabled, is it not in the game, or I'm I stupid?

other than that, the ending made me lol, but maybe you spend a bit too much time on it? that sound track could/should have been used in the main game imho.
but overall fantastic job, hope to see you partake in the next ld.

I love the really shaky art style, it makes it feel more frantic.

It captured me while trying it. The art style, really nice. The truck, all to discover. I expected to have a music along digging experience but unfortunately after hititng play it stopped. Nice job anyway! :)

Fun little game with charming graphics. Not sure if there was supposed to be any music while playing but I couldn't hear anything. Keep up the good work!

This is a nice quick game to play and re-playable. I like the music too even if it was only on the start screen. Thanks for the chance to play your game.

Fun little game, and I loved the pen-and-paper graphics, it looks very unique while still being very clear and obvious what is going on. I was especially impressed with the lighting, especially as you go deeper. I think there may be a problem with the sound though, I see from the title screen that there IS music and sound effects in the Settings menu, but when the game actually starts I can't hear anything. The risk-reward mechanics of choosing to keep digging or decide to turn back and refuel was really cool. Overall a wonderful game! Great job!

I really like it. I ended up playing it 3 times to see how quickly I could do it. I really like the hand-drawn style. And I laughed a lot at the end.

!> (Of course there would be techno. I mean that in a good way.)

The art and animation during the ending especially grabbed me. I only think it would be nice to have audio during the main game.

@leggy @goldenevolution @caloudon @nice-gear-games Thank you for the kind words! We sadly had to pull the sountrack from the main game right before release as we all thought it would hurt the overall expirience more than add to it. We are working on a patch though so for those that tolerate such things there will be an option to play an updated version too.

You guys did a WONDERFUL job! I loved the game, the art style is very cool and the game handeled pretty well. It was unfotunate the ores directly translated into money, I assume a lack of time to implement the selling part. I thought I could beat my drones to the bottom, but it was locked off. The ending is great, I liked the music overall, but the end music was epic! I enjoyed that a lot!
Great work!

Finished! Love the ending. Reminds me of Steamworld Dig. One thing I would fix is assign digging to some action button because often you dig when you don't want to. Overall - FUN game

I really enjoy playing games with graphics the deviate from the more common forms! The first part of the game seemed to have had some intended parts cut out of scope. The trader seemed to be out of office for example. The mining economy was also very kind (a gas station that doesn't care how much fuel you want!). I didn't mind that too much as it allowed focusing on depth and just buying/upgrading all sorts of equipment. And well not to spoil:

!> This all felt like a very good build up to the end crashing through the floor of the world. I think it actually makes more sense having the game part like that to sort of point out that the big reward of the game is the drastic and funny turn with the hellish end credits.

Good game! Nice hand-drawn art. The gameplay picks up really fast, and it is very fun when you become overpowered. The ending was awesome and unexpected.

It's only missing some more sounds, like for digging, flying or getting a mineral.

Solid entry, great job! (Also, good job with the itch page!)
