Game

Play as a robot that can shrink down inside of a cat to cure its disease. Play through three different levels to complete your mission.

shrinking-vet-levels.png

How To Play

  • WSAD to Move
  • Spacebar to Jump
  • Right Mouse Button to Aim/Charge
  • Left Mouse Button to Fire
    • The aiming is a bit off, the reticle is a rough approximation
    • The higher the charge the more damage it does, the faster it goes, and the larger the projectile
  • Esc to Pause

⚠ Important Information ⚠

This is some Additional information based on feedback. Some of these should have been explained, or at least much more obvious, in the game. Others are information about issues with the game that don't work the best.

  • There was supposed to be a cutscene at the beginning that shows you shrinking down and going inside a cat but I didn't have enough time to actually make that. That's what the aesthetic is supposed to be though.
  • Level 1:
    • The purple things (which were supposed to be bacteria) cannot be killed. They were also designed so that you have to be careful about how you get past them. Just repeatedly running through won't work unless you are crazy lucky.
    • Two of the three jumping sections don't line up precisely and can get out of sync easily so you may need to wait a few cycles before it's possible to make it through.
    • There are two overall ways you can go to get to the end. When you reach the blue/green thing walk into it to proceed.
  • Level 2: There are multiple stages of attacks of the boss dependent on the health of the boss.
  • Level 3: A lot of people seem to be struggling with level 3. This should have been mentioned in the game but you need to Hit all 5 of the purple RNA strands. Using a full charge makes them easier to hit. You cannot destroy the blue ones.
    • There also isn't anything after level 3 so if you're struggling, you've seen everything so feel free to just close the game
  • The aiming/shooting has issues. If you are too close to an enemy you may not be able to hit it.

Tools Used

I was hoping to get to it but I ended up not having time for proper cut-scenes, animations, or VFX

Cool! Fun to see a fellow Unreal dev. Some ideas:
Fast forward intro text?
Change AA to FXAA?
Disable SteamVR and Oculus plugins; they start when I start the app and cannot be shut down
Draw crosshair at the screen's true center and use a raycast/line trace to change the angle of projectiles?
Other than that, good job man! Sounds, music, and models are all good for the 48 hour period.

@windzyboy I'm still fairly new to unreal so that kind of feedback is definitely helpful. Thanks!

Very cute idea! I agree that there is something extremely wrong with this cat!

I quite like the vibes of the game, and I like the charging weapon mechanic  The platforming is quite difficult!

Nice job for the timeframe! I made it past the first boss but was stuck in the next area. I think I destroyed a strand in there but couldn't seem to hit any others. The main issue I had was with the aiming. It didn't really feel like my shots went to the reticle even with the looking down the sites type mode. Parkour was decently challenging but doable.

My wife is a vet and she seemed to think the science was a little off but I think it was basically what she does every day.

Good job on the design of the environements and ennemies, i definitely feeled like i'm in a body surroundings by germs. Are the projectile supposed to be this slow ? We can even run past them x). The platform parts are challenging but you give us a good amount of lifepoints to try and nice checkpoints, good compo entry !

Nice game, enjoyed playing. There was quite a lot of motion blur though which would be nice if there was an option to turn that off. :D

The graphics were extremely thematic, the microscopic setting was articulated very well. The aiming was extremely off putting, perhaps avoid changing the perspective when switching. The acid platforms were interesting, they seemed to move up and down at random which made jumping over them extremely difficult. The boss in world two was a little slow. The game was unbeatable in level 3.

I liked the game. Graphics where quite nice and I also liked the idea. Shooting was a bit hard, it seems like there was an offset and sometimes it was hard to see if the shot even connected. The platform elements were also quite hard.

Overall a good game.

This is a neat take on the theme. I think visually it looks great and the music/sounds are fitting and get the job done well. The gameplay is a bit awkward, the shooting is really slow and not very satisfying to use, and the obstacle sections with the purple things is hard to read and feels a bit cheap to die to sometimes. Although, The platforming sections were well made and fun to jump through. I found myself lost a lot and could never tell where I "Should" have gone. Overall this was still a great game to play through and a great entry

I didn't make it even through the first level since it was a bit hard for me. But it looked quite interesting. Something with the aiming was off and when all the cells ganged up on me after the first "worm tunnel" section it couldn't fight my way free. Good job for that short amount of time.

Next step would probably be polishing the user controls a bit :)

Fun platformer, nice interpretation of the theme.

The shooting was a bit off, but I enjoyed the game as a whole. Good job!

There's a really impressive amount of content here. The graphics are good, the sound is good, the music is good. The game is very hard in some frustrating ways though. Hitboxes on the worm things are a bit mean. Sometimes when I got to a platforming segment the moving platforms would be out of sync and that made it almost impossible to get past. It would be better to have no aim reticle than to have one that is wrong.

All that said, this is a cool entry for compo, good job!

I like your take on the theme honnestly !
Not always clear on what was going on (like what I had to do, what was ennemies and what was not), but thanks to the sounds I eventually understood :D
I think I m a s t e r e d the level2/bossfight haha

Great job on doing all this in 48h, loved the overall graphical mood

Neat concept and pretty good graphics. I don't have much feedback that hasn't already been said. Biggest issue is with aiming with projectiles not going to the centre of the screen. Also, those acid pit platforms were killer. Lol

This one was tough for me but I liked the concept and theme. I liked running around inside a cat, but I quickly became overwhelmed by white blood cells.
