Thats Deep by InappropriateName

[raw]
made by InappropriateName for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

LDIm.PNG Solo Jam entry. All assets were made by me in the 72 hours with the exception of a bare bones character controller I pulled from an old project of mine.

Ill be honest, I wasn't too fond of the theme, but in keeping with it I was inspired by the 'Meme phase' "I'm 14, and this is deep" ...so ill let you be the judge of what came of it. Hopefully you cringe, but if you find this Inspiring, then more power to you.

Controls: - WASD or Arrow Keys to move - Space to jump - Escape to open Main Menu

I understand the controls are a bit difficult to work with so for those struggling to get through the game but curious to see the end I have uploaded a no death speed run to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt4POfSdM30

Skip to 1:25 to see the ending, left it recording longer for anyone who likes the view and music.

I recommend that you play with the brightness slider in the Escape Menu a bit before playing.

Tools Used: - Unity - Visual Studio - Krita - Laigter (Normal Map Generator) - Audacity - A Guitar

lmao I didn't expect this. I'm a big fan of cringe humor. I was getting ptsd flashbacks to 13 yr old me posting that stuff on fb. The controls were a bit punishing I thought. Maybe give the player a bit of grace period after leaving the ledge to where they can still jump afterward. Anyway great job esp for a solo project.

One of the funniest game I played on this LD. We laughed as crazy while playing it (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1002881859?t=00h58m36s). I also like the difficulty - at the very moment I thought it is frustrating and hard, the game ended.
Good job!
P.S. the lantern is awesome!

The guitar track is exactly the kind of "sad crap" I would play endlessly as a teenager :P

I didn't get very far though cause the controls were all floaty and weird. The lighting of the character and other things in the world is lovely, I gotta go learn how to do that. Controls aside, this would have been fun to finish I'm sure.

@autogibbon Hi, thanks for checking out the game, the controls are a bit difficult to get used to so I have uploaded a youtube speed run above if you're curious to see the rest of the game, I achieved this lighting by using a combination of Sprites + normal maps with unity's new 2D lights in their URP, if you're interested in giving it a go you can enable 'use normal maps' on the 2D lights.

I never heard "broken crayon can still colour" but it's funny (at least for me) and true :D
BTW the game is great and the guitar track is beautiful. Well done :D

I found myself chillin while playing. The colors, lights, music create a very relaxing ambiance. Thanks for making checkpoints :)

The amount of precision some jumps require is stupid

I would have loved some more precision on the jumping like when I let go of the jump button I'd like to see the character go down and not proceed with the jump. I loved the music mood and texts that appeared along the way to drive the story. Would have been great with some SFX also. Well done!
