Rhythm Cult by CodeCavy
"You ... Have the groove! I can hear it pulsating and bouncing in your veins!"
You are the chosen one. Of course. You've been hearing the holy signals for quiet a long time now. It's time to embark on a journey and prove your worth to the five guardians. Prepare your sickest dance moves and master every floor of the cold, unforgiving underground. Maybe you'll even make new freinds along the way, who knows?
We laughed. We cried. But at least we finished on time somehow. It was planned to be a rhythm game but we're not quiet sure if it qualifies as such. It has a strong focus on music though. One playtrough should take you about 20 minutes.
And now, chosen one, step forward and fulfill your holy mission!

Before anything else, music is 10/10. Well worth to groove through all the levels.
Now I proceed to sing praises to this game. While some may think that the graphics are on the basic side, I'd say they're actually very charming and do help build up the atmosphere. I like jamming with the guardians and making it all the way to the deepest void, with some bittersweet themes to it.
And it might not sound like much, but I'm most impressed by the polish of the text. Not many games in these jams have the option to press the button to show more text and faster. It's usually all displayed from the start, or press to skip, or wait until it finishes appearing. These details really help the player enjoy the narrative at their reading pace. Fantastic!
My only "issue" is that to me, this wasn't much of a rhythm game which I was looking forward to, but rather, some "reverse dodging" game with some cool music to it. Rather than moving to the beats, it felt more like I was moving around do the beats would position to my position. It felt a bit awkard at the start, but it stopped being a problem soon.
Regardless, I love it when jam games have music this good. Fantastic entry! :whale:
Now... Wow. You always hope when you're competing in a Jam that you can really make a complete package, but usually you can see where things got cut, or the whole thing becomes something of a proof of concept. But this really did feel like a complete package.
I think I died on melody 6 about five or six times before I finished it, but it really felt like a proper 'boss' fight song, and is stuck in my head now. Lots of fun, and super impressive it was done in 72 hours. Really glad I played it.
The difficulty curve was on point (almost lost it at the last song !) and the music was great and varied.
To be honest, I was focusing so much that I didn't really pay attention to the animations of the characters, but they were all very well written and different.
Definitly the best entry I've played so far, huge congratulations !
What artwork I was able to see is really good, and the music is fantastic... Don't suppose you have a Soundcloud for the last track? Would like to enjoy listening to it without worrying about inputting the right keys.
Overall I enjoyed the game, good job!
