Opportunity Cost by BlockyFish

[raw]
made by BlockyFish for LD33 (JAM)
Opportunity Cost is a game where you must dominate the world through building factories in various regions. As the head of the company, you will have to make decisions that are immoral or unfair in the name of profit and shareholder approval. After all, you are the monster.

We recommend you run the WebGL app in fullscreen, as running it in the window cuts off the edges of the game.

Thanks, and enjoy the game!

I get an error when trying to run the game from both Chrome and Firefox

Cool game. I like how detailed it was to where you could change wages and work hours. It was a very hard game overall. Truly we are the monsters.

Capitalism, the realest monster :) Things happen a bit too fast. I tried to decrease wages and increase hours, but I would lose WAY more money than I ever made from strikes.

I like your interpretation of the theme.

I too get an error. I believe bug fixes are allowed after the deadline, so you could fix it.

I overextended and my shareholders bailed on me... Dammit capitalism is hard! Nice work!

Hey guys, is it a game bug or the web player not working? We haven't been having problems here and some other commenters are having no problem. Thank you for the input!

It dragged, the events were slow in coming and was very difficult to not have a way to speed up time and get to next event. It really was much more waiting, which overrode the fun when you had events. I did like the play on the theme though, well played.

Interesting concept, got the point across well. It was quite hard, maybe I'm thick though. was a little hard initially to understand the gravity of any given choice, which was fun in some ways because it meant I would just spend up and crash and burn. Perhaps that's the point.

Downloaded the files and got it to work.

I really couldn't figure out how to make a good profit. Good idea, but I really couldn't figure out how to do much of anything.
It has a lot of potential, though, if you were willing to do some fine-tuning.
Also, I love the setting.
Well done!

The tuning wasn't my strong point! I found it a little simple during testing but I guess if I spend 3 days with a game I will get used to it. Sorry for the difficulty, it's supposed to be a bit easier. Lessons have been learned, thank you for all your lovely feedback.

Cool game!

Random events are fun, but buttons didn't click too well.

At first this looked like it might take too long to learn how to play, but the game was pretty intuitive and a lot of fun. It's pretty difficult (played a few times and only gut up to about 3 years) but it has a good feel to it. I also really like the music.

Love the theme, but the execution is lacking: I've tried a number of different strategies but my shareholder confidence always goes down and I lose.

Cool theme interpretation. I was very bad at it but still had fun :)

Cool but very difficult game. The music really carries the mood. If you polish it up a bit post-LD I'd love to dig in deeper!

Good job, but it is very difficult! I had distasters happening at the moment I bought a new factory on a specific territory, so I had no chance to pick up myself

If you get a war in your continent your income becomes negative and theres nothing you can do about it. The idea, graphics and sound were great, but the game could use more balancing.
