Fish Loop by internetpaulicy

This game delivers a small narrative concept and lots and lots of googly eyes.

I was interested in adding a narrative element to a simple game concept. You are a fish. You fall from the sky and meet an octopus. There is a time in the beginning where you are not sure about the octopus. The octopus is not sure about you. But in the end you become friends!

I found the theme, kind of well, it was not the theme I wanted. But I made the best of it. I planned and wrote up the whole design upfront and followed it strictly. The challenge was to finish on time and to make something close to what I imagined.

Great game with great graphics, but the controlls are a little bit heavy and unresponsive.

Yooo, this game really needs some kind of soundtrack. I stopped it midway and put a tune into the background and it immediately felt better.

The graphics were clearly your focus and they turned out good. I think it could've been a more fleshed out game if you went for a Physics velocity approach for the fish movement and made it a bit less forgiving if you bump into walls and stuff.

Things I liked:
- The art style is good
- The core game loop feels good
- overall a fun game!

Improvments:
- something that makes the game loop a bit more obvious; I'm not sure what was happening at the end until I read the post
- Add some type of growing complexity that encourages people to play over and over (maybe it's a multi-dimensional space-time octopus!)
- make he crabs march back and forth on their platforms for added complexity
- some swimming sounds for when you charge to eat (and a biting sound when you catch food)
- a splash sound when you land in the water at the beginning
- swim particles when you boost to eat
- splash particles when you land in the water at the beginning

Bugs:
- didn't find any

I didn't even realize how to eat fish the first time through and had 0 at the end ... second time I had 15... not sure what is supposed to happen or change at the end? I like the style and mechanics though. I wish I could swim faster though.

Wasn't sure what to do at first, but accidentally pressed space and figured it out. Good work!

I like the artstyle and graphics overall, though gameplay and sounds are lacking
