Cave Bound by Sn4pi

[raw]
made by Sn4pi for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

Cavebound is a game about exploring and looting an infinite cave while bound to a rope.

Features: - 3 enemy types - A glitchy mess of collisions - Selfmade physics - A technically playable state

Yeah, there was a severe lack of time due to outside circumstances this time around. But we feel like we still learned a ton given that we went with something very unconventional to us in the form of procedural generation and fully physics based movement. I hope you can find some fun with it, no matter how borked it ended up!

Controls: - WASD : Movement - Space : jump - RMB -> pick up, throw - LMB -> interact, use held item

Neat concept! It's like spelunky but perma-on a bungee-rope. I ran into a few bugs like clipping outside the level and just sliding down the side to go lower and enemies would randomly fly offscreen/despawn (all stuff you mentioned) but I think there's a really strong basis here for a fun game loop.

I think post-jam wise a shop to spend your treasure in for weapons/powerups/health would be really cool. With the time constraints and outside life getting in the way you did a great job getting this done. Well done =]

Kind hard to get use to the controls but the idea is great and graphics are adorable :id:

Good Job <3

I like the concept of rappelling down a hole like this and swinging to avoid things or get to new areas. I agree with the other commenter that there's a strong basis for a fun game loop here if you spent some time improving some things.

I think you could improve this by giving the player more of a reason to want the treasure. Such as maybe doors at the bottom of the level that only open when you gather X amount of treasure (maybe even just 1). To prevent someone just holding down the entire time (which is what I did eventually). And I think some of the corridors should be a bit easier to grab the treasure, maybe I suck but I basically always died when going for treasure haha.

I definitely found some bugs too. I clipped outside the level a few times and there were enemies teleporting around the screen or disappearing. Sounds like you knew about those though.

Honestly though, good work! This is an interesting concept and I liked it overall.

The graphics and the music is great. I like the concept, but yhea....it's sucks that you didn't had time to bug fix :( I tryd roughly 15 times to play but most of the time I bugged inside a wall or couldn't avoid the enemy.
I wish you more luck at next time.

Bravo! I love the little enemy death sound. It is the literal definition of when that 'a' key on my keyboard gets stuck down.

Nice concept!! The game was really hard in the beggining, but I got the hang of it eventually! I do think we need more reasons to collect the gems, but that's a jam, i didn't have time to implement everything I wanted as well.
Even so! Great game! Great sound and graphics!

Nice graphics and really innovative gameplay. Sadly it feels a bit clunky in the beginning and when picking up an object I tended to get stuck a few times. And I made it out of the map boundaries once :P
Nonetheless a great idea and a result you can be proud of.

Very spelunky-like! Even with the difficulty. I like it. Art and animations are on point. There's some issues with the rope from time to time where you warp through walls, once warped out of the map :(

But overall really enjoyable. Good job

I found the rope swinging very well executed and definetely a mechanic worth expanding upon. But at times the game behaved really buggy, for example I once got stuck in the wall deep on the right side, out of visible sight, and sometimes I clipped into the wall for no reason. And it was difficult not to die with only one life, but maybe that was intended difficulty. Great idea and cool aspects, but often I didn't know what exactely I was supposed to do and what exactely the point of the rocks for example was. And one more small thing. As I died so often, i found it a bit anoying to always start at the start menu instead just simply in a new round of the game. But visualy pleasing and the control systhem in many points very polished!

I liked the concept very much. I played a few runs but I always died when the first enemies came out x)

Nice project with some interesting features which enlarge gameplay. Physics work well as expected. You did a big amount of work on the aesthetic which reminds me an old game - Rick Dangerous on Atari ST. You deserve my respect for what you did - and also for your amazing score with my own project Tunnel48. Well done. Thank you ++
