Sunken Dungeon by Pascone

[raw]
made by Pascone for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

You aren't the first, and you won't be the last, for the Sunken Dungeon calls out to all hardy enough to descend into its bottomless depths. Most come in search of the treasure held within, and for others, the glory of delving as deeply as possible and living to share their tale. Deeper and deeper you will go, with nothing but your reflexes to defend yourself from the monsters which call this cavern their home.

Brave every floor you can handle on your downwards spiral, and relish in the loot you find within... But don't loosen up, lest you become a permanent resident in... The Sunken Dungeon!

Very interesting combat system! I enjoyed the graphics and found the whole wheel mechanic quite fun. I felt overwhelmed when there were lots of enemies but was overall having a good time with this game.

Very good game! I really enjoyed the unique combat system, and the whole item looting system was really really cool! Good work!

I loved this! Very well executed. The mechanics are unique but simple enough to follow right out of the gate. I would have liked the attack pattern circles to have some more screen space, especially relative to the pointer at their top. That being said, I can't find much else to nitpick here! I felt confident and in control on my second run, clearing through a bunch of floors perfectly without being touched, and was immediately wiped in one floor when I put down my guards — I feel like that's a good balance!

I'm playing on an ultrawide, so some of the UI elements were misplaced for me. Also, the mac App file is corrupted (common issue nowadays) and I had to fix it with a terminal command before I could play. I've found that rather than uploading the .app, putting it inside a .dmg first prevents most issues.
Loved the graphics and sounds. The gameplay was a bit tough at first, but some of that might've been because of my onw UI issues. An in-game live tutorial would be more intuitive than a menu option.

@bodsworthcm @gates @eden-shazar Thanks for playing our game! Im glad you enjoyed it :)

@shaolin-dave I will look into making a fixed build for later mac versions. I am still running Mojave myself so I am not used to Apple's new protocols. Do you mind me asking which UI elements were misplaced? Thanks in advance!

I'd have to compare on a regular display and my ultrawide to be sure, but for starters I think the tutorial screen was cropped at the top and bottom. I assume there was an X button there I wasn't able to click, so I had to quit the app entirely and start over.
Generally, I'll create my UI elements in editor, then set the game window to Free Aspect so I can stretch it to every imaginable ratio and make sure it looks good, even though I know 99%+ of people are using 16:9

Wow love the idea of this and think if expanded could be a super fun game! I think it could have been a bit more difficult, right now it's quite easy just to block and spam left click when the circle slice has turned green. But what a unique idea!

I share the opinion of the attack patter circle being a bit bigger, but other then that, a great game! SPECIALLY for the time frame! (Loved the sounds as well!!!)

The game is very polished and interesting but it's hard to understand what you're supposed to do. There's no tutorial or explanation and the description doesn't explain anything. Also I think that the enemies are a bit too OP, one missclick and you're dead.

The gameplay was super fun, I'm still trying to figure out the timing on being attacked once I realized I could block (that's what I get for not reading controls) I made it pretty far and felt really stacked with gear, but still ended up getting challenged and destroyed haha.

Interesting concept and unique mechanics, and the music is nice too! I think it will be more fun if can display some hit effect on the enemy.

Nice mechanic for the combat.
There were times I thought I was blocking, but still got hit.
Graphics are cool, music didn't get annoying, well done.

This is awesome! Honestly I had a blast playing this and thought it was super unique and interesting. A tutorial (other than telling you the buttons) wouldve for sure been great, because I had no idea what I was doing at the start. I still wasnt quite sure what my items were doing. But it was really interesting mashing click to deal damage in windows and then block when it gets red. Lots of fun. I really think you could grow this out into something big!

Loved it. I really enjoyed the mechanics of this game. Reminded me of The Witcher's combat, but if it was good.

This was really cool! I enjoyed the concept a lot. Although I think I ran into a bug? Enemies just kept dying on their own without me ever attacking them? Not sure. Maybe I missed something. Oh well, great work! Thanks for sharing!

Interesting game. Honestly, I couldn't understand the logic of the battles. I tried to click the green, the colors that were the same as the colors of the monsters or random colors. Sometimes I defeated the monster and sometimes I was defeated. I was unable to fight using strategy. When I managed to get deeper it was because I clicked at random. Perhaps it would be interesting to have a little explanation for less able people like me, so that these people can enjoy a beautiful game like this in the right way.

Congratulations on your work.

Yaay, floor 19 after a few tries!

Very good game idea!
Graphics are nice and cute, music is good and sounds are clear.

As many other peoples, I had a hard time understanding there was a second page in the tutorial! Once I found it, everything became much smoother, and the game felt really great.

Sometimes, my click didn't seem to register, mostly on the later level, I am sorry I cannot be more useful I don't really know what caused this.

Also, I would love it if the color circles where bigger (like really big). It would help you prioritize enemies at first glance when entering a new floor for exemple.

Thanks for the game, I had fun 💕
