Cloud 57 by quadtree

[raw]
made by quadtree for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

cover_image.png A science vessel has been lost in a mysterious cloud designated Cloud 57. As they went deeper and deeper into the cloud, they passed through several layers and reported some odd readings. Eventually, we lost contact with them. Go to their last known location and try to find them.

Controls: * WAD/Arrow Keys - Move/Strafe * Mouse - Turn * Left Click - Fire cannons * Right Click - Fire missile * R - Restart game

In my testing Chrome seems to perform the best, but any browser that supports WebGL 2 should work.

A really fun game! Cool interpretation of the theme. The controls and combat feel really good. Thanks for adding a difficulty option at the start of the game for noobs like me. Great job!

I've never successfully hit enemies with the cannons (or I did hit them but in that case it lacks some feedback). Increasing their hitbox might help. I played on medium difficulty.

My strategy was to avoid enemies, die a few times, and keep my missiles for the boss. Oh yeah I didn't expect a boss, that was a great addition even if it consists of a beefed up enemy. Cool game overall :P

I found the combat quite difficult as it was hard to avoid enemy lasers and turning the ship to face the enemies was slow, and also it was difficult to hit the enemies with my own lasers. But I managed to beat the game by just avoiding the enemies and flying straight to the end.

I liked the graphics for this, they remind me of some old-school 3D space games. Also the music adds a lot of atmosphere to the game.

That's a lot of work done for a Compo entry - amazing job. Open space can be disorienting in games, but this felt exactly right. Loved the chill music, sounds and also simple effects. A great demonstration that a simple 3D game be a good entry!

WAD didn't work for me for some reason (as well as R), so I had to use arrow keys. It was hard to avoid enemies' attacks and aim at them, but anyways I was able to finish the game

Very cool! I think there was some weirdness with weapon convergence causing me to miss the drones, or maybe some of them are tougher than others?

Nice game, I found it a bit difficult to hit the enemies, some auto lock-on would be nice for casual gamers like me ;)

Nice game! I enjoyed it! I would recommend going the extra mile and add some banter like in Starfox, so you get messages from your enemies or the main enemy.

A lot of work for a compo, well done!

Overall a pretty tight little game.
