Go No Farther by Lifeforce

Description

You're someone condemned to being some useless fragile ethereal creature... unless you bribe the devil with lots of coins.

Good news: you already have the coins.

Bad news: your coins are a treasure hidden deep down in what's now a very well known underground cave system, and it seems like your scary GO NO FARTHER sign (with an illustration of a grim reaper which is much scarier than yourself) only attracted more attention... maybe you shouldn't have written "there's no treasure worth dying for here" on the sign.

Worse yet, your coin chest's lid opened by itself and you have all your hard earned spanish doubloons floating freely, up to grabs.

Objective

Grab all coins under the allotted time limit while avoiding getting killed by much stronger divers with harpoon guns. Don't let the divers get your precious loot!

Controls

WASD/Arrow keys = move your dumb ghost ass around the underwater cave passages Each successive level has an increase in coins, but also an increase in enemies. Watch out! This is an HTML5 export so you can play in the browser.

Changelog:

-Fixed title screen UI bug and fixed second coin spawn point not showing. Only bugfix until voting ends.

--There are some pretty glaring bugs that had to be left in due to a lack of time and experience, and while I have a pretty good idea on how to fix most of them, I had to submit the game... I'll update the game once everyone had a chance to see the game in its original state.

--Also, I know that cheesing the spawn points are easy, again, lack of time = lack of good level design :( This is also something that will be improved in the future, alongside multiple levels, etc.

Nicely done! I had fun, and after a bit I was like "these guys should be aggressive" then they killed me xD

Cool game! Those guys with the harpoons are ruthless. Loved the NES graphics.

Very cool graphics, made me real nostalgic for my old MAME days, haha. The enemy patterns and variations (black divers that collect coins and red divers that shoot you) made it very exciting despite it being rather simple. I do wish there was sound effects or music, that would've really helped to sell the arcade-y feel. Great job!

@thatmanrobin thanks for the feedback! I'm glad they actually posed a threat for once haha.

@gno-evenimente Thanks. Glad you liked the art, it's frankly my favorite thing about it.

@nice-gear-games Yeah, I kinda ran out of time and sound was in the bottom of the to-do list. It's great that you liked it but truth be told, the level isn't very well designed as I made it so the bottom half of the stage will have much less enemies than the top half. I think it all went well considering this is my very first jam and I never touched godot before, though. Thanks for the feedback!

@justcamh thanks for taking your time to do this, it's much appreciated not only from me but by the whole community.

@hybitous glad you enjoyed it, the focus was getting that arcade feel down, thanks!

@simpathey thanks for playing it on stream but you went too soft on it lol

@judgeclark really appreciate it, though I guess I'm cheating on number of colors if I'm competing with ZX Spectrum games haha

sorry it took so long to drop a comment. overall awesome first game on a modern engine and you are coming from the assembly days how crazy is that? issues encountered, the death and reset of enemies wasn't present which made it a bit harder than expected and sometimes the enemy projectiles wouldn't kill me. but overall i am excited to see more games from you

Awesome retro style graphics, movement is nicely paced as well. Possibly have a death animation of some sort.
