MazeCeption by burntoast2000

[raw]
made by burntoast2000 for Ludum Dare 48 (JAM)

MazeCeption is the result of blood, sweat, tears, caffeine, and a lot of confusion.

This game is our first real LudumDare submission and the first time either of us have ever used Godot.

After a 24hr tutorial period Thursday we jumped right in and made this monstrosity.

The goal of MazeCeption is to reach the end of a procedurally generated maze (marked by a green dot). The twist is that along your path you'll encounter several tiles that are themselves procedurally generated mazes...and within those mazes further mazes...and within those mazes...

Entering a sub-maze puts you within that maze and exiting returns you one level up.

Upon reaching the end of the maze and collecting that ever so fabulous green prize you are given the ultimate reward for a rat..................ANOTHER MAZE

Happy Mazing everyone

Thanks for checking our game out

The mazes within mazes tiles is a very confusing mechanic. It makes the game rather disorientating. Perhaps it would be less confusing if you could see the entire maze at one time, or had the camera zoomed out more.

on the one hand, i love how cruel it is to have to do a maze inside of a maze, on the other hand, it's so painful to have to solve 5 mazes to solve 1 maze.

i think it's a really novel mechanic/idea, but i wonder what kinds of feedback loop/rewards you can give your player for completing mazes! i enjoy getting the cheese, but there were no counters or any way to track progress!

I think a depth counter would be helpful for the player, it was hard to figure out how deep i was. I really like that you can see the maze before doing it!

Clever concept and a good memory exercise. I liked how I could get a glance of the solution before entering the deeper maze.

This was a really cool idea! I wish the camera was a little larger so I could slow down before hitting a new maze, but outside of that this was pretty well done. Nice work!
