Panda Prize Pusher by PhthaloGold

[raw]
made by PhthaloGold for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Panda Prize Pusher is inspired by arcade prize machines where you push the prizes past stoppers down into the chute.

Screen 1.png In Panda Prize Pusher you push a pink panda plush through a series of connected prize machines until it falls out of the last one and into your possession. There are 5 short levels. Push the panda through each machine until you reach the end! You might find that it is not the only thing sinking deeper and deeper.

Controls

  • Move with arrow keys, A & D, or the onscreen buttons on the prize machine.
  • Push down with Space, Enter, or the onscreen button on the prize machine.

Rules

  • Push the pink panda plush down the prize chute.
  • Each push costs $5
  • Resetting the machine does not rollback the total amount of money spent

Very well polished. The art and music were amazing, and it felt super satisfying when I got the panda to finally fall along with the other plushies.

This is possibly the cutest game on LD 48. This project has awesome sound, easy controls and casual objective. That we need to relax.

Oooohh that's such a cute game ! And look at this little panda who is so cuuuute ! Nice job done ! Good graphics and physics
Beside that, maybe you should add a system a system hinting the player if he doing well or not, set him an objective, which is partially done with the money system, but not completely. You can add for example you can set a set amount of money to the player who fall down when he push and rise when plush fall.

Love it! Although, not sure if the 295$ panda is worth it...

Awesome music and art, sweet athmosphere. I wish you would've gone for a faster absurd over the top gameplay, like if there were much more toys, but your pusher was unstopable. I think now it's kinda boring, but it completely incapsulates toys arcade machines vibe

Really captured the atmosphere of an arcade game grabber! (I found myself thinking - 'just one more try') with nice musical atmosphere too. I really liked the hint at a narrative (I thought the line about going deeper into debt / implying that the egg might hatch were both interesting strands, and could lend themselves to a fuller narrative?)

If I had to sum this game up in one word it would be "cute", the plushies, the sounds, the mood, it's all super cute! I also really liked the little random texts on the bottom-left, with neat references and such

Gameplay-wise, it's solid and I had fun with the game, though it starts getting a bit repetitive after a while since the best strategy seems to be to repeatedly smash the same spot, the random texts is really what kept me going.

Overall, this is a great submission for a first Ludum Dare, so kudos to you!

I could have played this game for a lot longer. The overall feel was really engrossing. Nice graphics and unique representation of the theme! I was a bit confused if the goal was to spend more money or save it. Other then that, it was great!

$345 for a panda??!! ;)

Neat physics simulation. Very well polished art style too. Well done!

I could see this being made a great deal more fun if you sped it up. The main slow-down for me (and subsequent cause for frustration) was the reset time on the plunger. Additionally, the little sliding platforms that get in your way just slowed me down.

Yes, I can see you want pace/timing to be a part of the gameplay, but the *fun* thing about the game is blasting the cute toys with the pushy thing. Anything that gets in the way of that (its slow reset time / the platforms) just takes away from fun. My two cents!

I wonder what this game would be like if the cute toys deformed somewhat when struck... could be interesting!

Great work overall!

@tim77 I got mine for exactly $300. You've been abused.
Otherwise very pleasant and polished game, in all aspects.

I'm not so sure about the moving platforms: they add a bit of difficulty, but the only way to deal with them is simply to wait for the right opening. So they just add "delay", which, as a player, I don't like much.

Nice idea and a nice game.
The game feel polished but I was kind of frustrated about the reload time of the hook.
Very good work

Cute little game! Great for a first Compo entry! Would love if there was a bit more dynamic mechanics, maybe different sized pushers and more moving parts. Good job!

This game reminds me, once again, why I should never play stupid prize games at any carnival. I just paid $275 for a silly panda bear!

Your game is very well polished. Would I spend a bunch of real $5 bills to get that panda? Nope. But, I felt compelled to keep pushing and pushing (and pushing) to get my panda through 5 machines and into my grubby little hands. Nice job!

this was a super cute game! the graphics are cute, not just the pink panda but the other squishy plushes in their too (i found myself equally wanting a penguin and frog plush, as well as the pink panda). overall it's a fun play but i'd love to see you work on further more diverse levels if you plan on making a full build. nice work, it was very simple, cute, and fun!

:heavy_check_mark: Really cute game! Loved the visuals, not only the plushes, but also the neon lights.

I didn't find any bugs (or at least not that I've noticed), and the game played very nicely.

:x: My only gripe of the game is that there's no challenge at all. I could understand the aim to spend as little money as possible, but sometimes the push doesn't seem to do anything at all, and sometimes it pushes very strong.

$335! I loved the added personality with the plushes talking and asking questions about each other. Cute, fun, and all around great little game.

Adorable game! Love the art and music. I didn't notice much in the way of strategy other than just "battering ram" your way through. Reminds me of a phone game you'd get to keep your kid occupied (in a good way)!
