Roses are Deep by Shell Pirate
Roses are Deep is a short narrative-based game about writing deep poems. You assume the role of a traditionally unnamed main character (MC) who has recently joined a poetry club after school. They are new to writing poetry, so they don't feel too confident yet, especially about their vocabulary. Because of this, they spend some of their free time reading through the dictionary, with the hopes of becoming a better poet and writing deeper poetry using more expressive words.

Fortunately, MC's quest is not as lonely as it sounds, as a kindhearted young lady called Rose helps them by listening to their poetry and helping them improve. MC likes this so much, in fact, that they end up tailoring their poems to make them more to Rose's liking. In the process the two's relationship develops and MC gets to reach the depths of Rose's heart, finding out who she truly is, beneath her surface.
Note: As both of us had some things come up, the game is far from completion (we'd say about 1/4th of the way there), but since we are both happy with the result, we decided to share this prototype with the LD community nonetheless. Hope y'all can get some enjoyment out of it!

I feel like I never see narrative games in jams like Ludum Dare, and that's a little sad because I really enjoy them. This is one of the better uses of the theme I've seen so far. The art and music was also great, and really helped create a comfortable aesthetic.
I try to give a little constructive feedback for any game I play, so I'll mention that I got to the text "Just to set myself a challenge..." and the game seemed to freeze. I'm guessing that was the end of the prototype - if it was, a little "to be continued" would have helped.
I also managed to time picking a word right as the countdown ended and managed to get it to count backwards, which was kind of amusing. (It still moved on as soon as I picked one more word - I wasn't stuck or anything.)

That aside I really liked this, and I hope you'll continue with it. To steal words from an earlier commenter, this is a charming prototype. Thanks for an interesting game.
I really liked this interpretation of the theme, though it seems like you ran out of time to get to the "and deeper" part of it. As for the word, it would be cool if some of them were a bit more unusual and you could learn their definitions too, just like reading a dictionary. Great ideas for a start!
We surely wanted to get to the deeper part of it to get a better understanding of Rose as a character but we'll keep that for another time ;)
Very nice job on atmosphere and the visual novel style gameplay :) I really liked it
