Falling Lad by someoneman

[raw]
made by someoneman for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

A giant eye monster is devouring the world. Falling Lad has lured it into a vein of power crystals. These crystals are the monster's only weakness.

Falling Lad also has the power to shoot small lasers that can slow down the monster. These lasers are powered by gravity, so you must fall and avoid the ground to power them up.

I like the visuals, and the platformer controls are really good. As the movement is so good, I wish there was more focus on platforming instead of just falling. The game is also a little too difficult, but it's still fun, and it has a lot of potential, well done!

Found it quite hard to control but the idea is pretty cool, havn't seen something like this before

Tried it a little bit, was fun, though I felt helpless at times if I stopped on a platform, there was nothing I could do to avoid the big brown monsters

Very nice, I love shooting the big fucker in his stoopid eye when hes trying to get me. Very satisfying

Just when I was thinking it was too easy the enemy caught up and got me. Good game, definitely more challenging than I first thought. I like the tutorial at the beginning but it might be nice to be able to skip it on replay

This is a really good one. I found it really scary and anxiety inducing, which is a good thing! My one complaint is that sometimes the monster swipes his eye away really quickly to the other side with no warning, which can feel unfair if it causes you to miss a shot (and die). If it moved slowly from side to side or something, that'd be a lot better. But this is really fun, and it could make a great mobile game, y'know? Something to play on the bus.

I like the notion of a very ammo-constraint top down shooter like this. It was very satisfying to land those charged shots on the eyeball. It took me a while to figure out that if I just kept falling as far as I could that I would out-run the monster. After a while I realized the best path was for me to grab a powerup, wait in strategically chosen spots for it to catch up, and then pop it in the eye quickly and run away. Interesting combination of mechanics here!

This game gives off some vibes.

I like how the eye moves from side to side and how you fall down and shoot upwards. And you can't spam firing because you have to wait on the bullet to reload.

Sometimes it felt like the eye would move faster than what you would fall, so maybe the fall speed could be higher?

The monster approaches really quickly, but the concept is great!

The game is really cool, it gives you a feeling of a solid gameplay cycle when you fall down, fill your weapon and shoot to the monster and then again and again, I like it.
