Area 50 by misterwalter

[raw]
made by misterwalter for LD33 (COMPO)
The humans thought that they could contain you.
They were wrong.

Flee Area 50 with your past lives, and raise them from the dead as you pass them. You can't escape alone, but you can escape together. Each monster has different abilities, and different weaknesses. Use them to help your comrades survive the onslaught of bear traps, a giant flying gun thing, and...bushes.

There's no endgame as of yet, but it's still pretty fun.

WASD/Arrow Keys or Mouse to move.
Click/Space Bar to jump.

I also left in a few dev cheats, because it's a game jam and I always wish they were there when I play other jam games. We're all developers here, there's no need to pretend.
K to take one damage. (useful for building up a swarm)
R to restart the game.
X to close the game on the standalone executable.

No audio, I couldn't get anything decent sounding together, so I decided to spare your ears. Mostly glitch free, but when I was going back and forth taking screenshots, I checked back and noticed that I was traveling insanely fast and also invisible, so props to you if you can reproduce that.

When you get bored, just leave it to idle, it's a great screensaver.

Awesome concept to have past lives play while you play the next round. It let's you try again, and shows you if you have beaten your last best place. Lots of points just for such an innovative past-lives features that makes it fun to play again and again.

Somehow very calming. You beat me to the screensaver comment, haha! It's cool how each monster has its own way of moving. At times, it'd take me a sec to realize which one I'm controlling.

Now if only there were a way to attack that gun up there...

It was interesting to use different monsters with different abilities. However, it's hard to figure out what's the special trait of octopus-like monster. I'd like to see more various monsters (lol, that's me saying who instead of 8 planned types of prey in my own game made only 4 within the time available :) ). But it's a really solid base to move further.

Here I made videos of me playing LD entries: http://youtu.be/6Al6aF0oETA

I really like the past lives mechanic, particularly that they still interact with things in the level.
